I’ve had this box of truffles stashed away in a cupboard for a few months and finally I got round to digging it out. I was looking forward to it as I had their Quality Street Intrigue Praline Truffles and I liked them so much I finished the box. Was the same going to be said about these ones?

My regular readers will know how much I like sweet and salty combos and nothing screams sweet and salty like salted caramel and to have this in a truffle sounded divine. When I opened the box, the truffles were individually wrapped. I opened my first one. I’m glad I did it carefully as the truffle was surrounded by salted caramel pieces and some of them had already fallen off in the wrapper. I took my first bite and I have to say, it wasn’t what I was expecting. I bit the truffle in half and albeit the centre was smooth truffle, it didn’t taste like salted caramel. The only flavour I got was burnt honeycomb and no hint of salt whatsoever!

This box was so disappointing, considering I kept it until last because I though this was really going to surprise me. Surprise me it did, but not in a good way! The last box I finished. I had one truffle, one truffle!! and no more. Very unlike me. I didn’t want them at all. I asked my husband to finish them, but I have a funny feeling they are still kicking around. I need to find someone to palm them off to.
