After my chicken steamed gyoza I went for the Duck Gyoza. I haven't had a gyoza from Wagamama that wasn't steamed before. I was looking forward to see what the difference would be like. I love duck too so this was going to be an interesting eat.
Wagamama Wagamama Duck Gyoza
"Duck fried gyoza served with dipping sauce."
This gyoza was fried, but to me it had a texture like it was baked. The outside of the gyoza felt like a pastry rather than a dumpling texture. There was lots of duck in the middle. There was something about this gyoza that I didn't like. I don't know if it was the gyoza itself or the dipping sauce. I can't quite put my finger on the flavour of the sauce. It didn't taste like hoisin to me, although I'm pretty sure it was a sweet sauce. I should have tried the gyoza and the sauce separately. I didn't even think about it at the time.
To this day I don't know if to was the gyoza, the sauce or both that I didn't like. One thing's for sure it that I won't order this again. I would happily eat one if my husband ordered it and he offered me a gyoza, but I wouldn't order this for me. I much prefer the texture and flavour of the chicken gyoza.
