For today's jazz matinee, I have invited the multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Laurent Bardainne, who will not be taking to the stage on his own, but has brought his Tigre d'Eau Douce with him. All of this was not entirely without an ulterior motive, as I had the feeling (after the rather chilly temperatures of the past few days) that it was high time to bring a little sunshine into the day with some light, cheerful jazz. And where is this guaranteed? At the newly opened Eden Beach Club. It takes its name from the latest album by the 'Freshwater Tigers'.
Für die heutige Jazz-Matinee habe den Multiinstrumentalisten, Komponisten und Produzenten Laurent Bardainne eingeladen, der allerdings nicht alleine die Bühne betritt, sondern seine Tigre d’Eau Douce mitgebracht hat. All das geschah nicht ganz ohne Hintergedanken, denn ich hatte (nach den doch etwas kühlen Temperaturen in den vergangenen Tagen) das Gefühl, es sei höchste Zeit, mit leichtem, fröhlichem Jazz viel Sonne in den Tag zu bringen. Und wo gelingt dies garantiert? Im neu eröffneten Eden Beach Club. Benannt nach dem neusten Album der “Süßwasser-Tiger”.
The music critics seem to be more unanimous than ever in their assessment of the work. "Consistently danceable music that creates a great atmosphere. This is a hot tip for the next beach party". With the release of "Hymne Au Soleil", Bardainne has already given us a small taste of what he will be serving up in 2022. It's an album full of ease, light-heartedness and a lot of what we now call smooth grooving, but now they're not only relying on the instruments, they've got Jeanne Added and Pupajim singing as well.
In der Beurteilung des Werkes scheint die Musik-Kritik sich einig wie selten. “Durchweg tanzbare Musik sorgt für beste Laune. Ein heißer Tipp für die nächste Strandparty.” Ein kleiner Vorgeschmack auf das, was uns Bardainne jetzt serviert, lieferte er bereits 2022 mit der Veröffentlichung von „Hymne Au Soleil“. Ein Album voller Leichtigkeit, Unbeschwertheit und mit viel von dem, was heutzutage als Smooth Groove bezeichnet wird.Nun allerdings vertraut man nicht ausschließlich den Instrumenten, sondern hat sich noch mit den Sängerinnen Jeanne Added und Pupajim verstärkt.
Originally a jazz saxophonist and composer, Laurent Bardainne completed his classical training. It was only a few years later that he began to produce his own compositions. For example, when he was asked by Pharrell Williams, Tony Allen, Cassius and David Murray to provide musical and technical support. It wasn't until 2020 that he made his first attempt, with an EP he called Marvin. He wanted to find out if there was any interest in his style of jazz interpretation. The song 'Porsche 944' on the short album stormed its way to the top of all the jazz charts.
Ursprünglich absolvierte Laurent Bardainne eine klassische Ausbildung als Jazzsaxofonist und Komposition. Das Komponierte dann auch selbst zu produzieren, kam erst Jahre später hinzu. So, als Pharrell Williams, Tony Allen, Cassius oder David Murray um musikalische und technische Beihilfe baten. Erst 2020 wagte er einen ersten Versuch mit einer EP, die er Marvin taufte, um zu erkunden, ob überhaupt Interesse an seiner Art der Jazz-Interpretation besteht. Das auf dem kleinen Album enthaltene Song ”Porsche 944” stürmte an die Spitze aller Jazz-Charts.
The album that followed, "Love is Everywhere", became the most successful debut album of its genre in France. Now, four years later, Bardainne is back with songs like "Serpent Kaa" and "Meilleur", which reflect the lightness of jazz and get everyone dancing with "Dance for Eternity".
So who do we have to thank for this pleasure? Laurent Bardainne on saxophone, Vincent Taeger and Philippe Gleizes on drums, Sylvian Daniel on guitar, Arnoud Roulin on piano, percussion in the hands of Fabe Beaurel Bambi and Valetin Ceccaldi, who plays the musical strings. Have fun in the garden of Eden nearby the beach.
Das darauffolgende Debütalbum “Love is Everywhere” entwickelte sich zum erfolgreichsten Debütalbum Frankreichs in seiner Sparte.Jetzt, vier Jahre später, serviert uns Bardainne Songs wie Serpent Kaa oder Meilleur, die die Leichtigkeit des Jazz wiedergeben und mit Dance for Eternety alle auf die Tanzfläche zwingt.
Wem haben wir demnach dieses Vergnügen zu verdanken? Am Saxofon - Laurent Bardainne, das Schlagzeug beherrschen Vincent Taeger und Philippe Gleizes, die Gitarre Sylvian Daniel, das Klavier Arnoud Roulin,Percussion in den Händen von Fabe Beaurel Bambi und Valetin Ceccaldi, der die musikalischen Fäden kontrolliert. Viel Vergnügen im Strandgarten von Eden.
