Sie tollen nun bereits seit weit mehr als zehn Jahren herum, die Bissigen Welpen. Denn bereits 2004 begann der Bassist Michael League an der Universität in Denton (Texas) Musiker um sich zu scharen, mit denen er seine musikalischen Ideen in die Tat umsetzen konnte. Zehn Jahre später hielt jener Michael League den ersten Grammy in seinen Händen.

They've been around for more than ten years now, the Snarky Puppies. Back in 2004, bassist Michael League began to gather musicians around him at the university in Denton (Texas) with whom he could put his musical ideas into practice. Ten years later, that same Michael League held the first Grammy in his hands.

Heute sind die Snarky Puppy von Texas nach New York umgezogen, haben sich auf beinahe vierzig Mitglieder vermehrt und beeindrucken durch eine ungewöhnliche Flexibilität, was den Zugang zum Jazz betrifft. Anfänglich, mit einer Mischung aus Jazz, Funk, Rhythm’n’Blues und Rock, fanden sie nur schwerlich Zugang zu einem größeren Publikum.

Today, Snarky Puppy have moved from Texas to New York, have grown to nearly forty members and impress with an unusual flexibility in their approach to jazz. Initially, with a mixture of jazz, funk, rhythm'n'blues and rock, they found it difficult to gain access to a bigger audience.

Erst mit dem sage und schreibe fünften Album “ground Up” gelang der Sprung in die Jazz-Charts. Ein Grund mehr, das eigene Plattenlabel nach dem Album zu benennen. Snarky Puppy, die sich auch gerne als große Familie bezeichnen, engagieren sich weltweit an Schulen jeglicher Bildungsstufe, um Jugendliche für die Musik zu begeistern.

Not until their fifth album, "ground Up", did they make it into the jazz charts. One more reason to name their record label after this album. Snarky Puppy, who also like to call themselves a big family, are involved in schools of all educational levels worldwide to inspire young people for music.

Nicht zu vergessen, die beinahe schon legendären After-Hours-Konzerte in New York, zu denen sich jene Musiker und Sänger treffen, die Snarky Puppy letztlich aufgefallen waren. Das Ganze nennt sich im Resultat ”Family Dinner” und listet sich in den Volume-Ausgaben von 1 bis unbegrenzt aus. Bisher mit dabei: Susana Baca, Salif Keïta, Jacob Collier, David Crosby, Jeff Coffin, Charlie Hunter, Becca Stevens und Laura Mvula.

Not to forget the almost legendary after-hours concerts in New York, where those musicians and singers who ultimately caught Snarky Puppy's attention meet. The whole thing is called "Family Dinner" as a result and lists itself from 1 to unlimited in the volume editions. So far, Susana Baca, Salif Keïta, Jacob Collier, David Crosby, Jeff Coffin, Charlie Hunter, Becca Stevens and Laura Mvula have joined in.
