Someone was born in Havana (Cuba) in 1975, and it was only fifteen years later that he ventured onto the stage as a pianist at the International Jazz Plaza Festival.
Another six years later he joined the band of Augusto Enriquez. In 1997, Roberto Fonseca and Javier Zalba founded the jazz group Temperamento.

Roberto Fonseca began to make a name for himself composing for film. For example, for the film "Black" by the French director B. Maraval.
In addition, he received requests from a wide range of artists. They invited him to the recording studio for their productions.
Ganz nebenbei machte sich Roberto Fonseca als Komponist für Filmproduktionen einen Namen. So, zum Beispiel, für den Film “Black” des französischen Regisseurs B. Maraval.

With the death of Ruben Gonzalez in 2003, the musical life of the young Roberto Fonseca changed dramatically. He was appointed by Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo as a full member of the Buena Vista Social Club, where he has played keyboards ever since.
2003 änderte sich mit dem Tod von Ruben Gonzalez vieles im musikalischen Leben des noch jungen Roberto Fonseca. Er wurde nämlich von Ibrahim Ferrer und Omara Portuondo als vollwertiges Mitglied des Buena Vista Social Clubs berufen, wo er seither für die Tasteninstrumente zuständig ist.
Roberto Fonseca is now a major influence not only on jazz but on Cuban music in general. He continues to perform with jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker and Brian Blade.
Ganz abgesehen davon, dass Roberto Fonseca inzwischen nicht nur den Jazz, sondern die Musik auf Kuba allgemein stark beeinflusst, steht er weiterhin mit Jazz-Größen wie Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker oder Brian Blade auf der Bühne.
In his compositions, Roberto Fonseca does not exclude any influences. Whether it is soul, classical music, drum'n'bass or Afro-Beat, he integrates it wherever it fits. But he always stays true to one rhythm. Namely, that of his native Cuba.
In seinen Kompositionen schließt Roberto Fonseca grundsätzlich keine Einflüsse aus. Ob Soul, Klassik, Drum’n’Bass oder den Afro-Beat – es wird integriert, wo immer es passt. Doch einen Rhythmus bleibt er stets treu. Nämlich dem seiner kubanischen Heimat.
