To all the jazz purists out there: There is no need to get unnecessarily upset!
An alle Jazz-Puristen: Kein Grund, sich unnötig aufzuregen!
There will be some people who will stand up and point out that Jazzrausch have already played on the Matinee stage. This appears to be indisputable. However, the rule of the exception comes into play here and now, as the Big Band's performance back then was limited to Christmas and the music appropriate to the religious festival. It was the Christmas-Special, and it does not do justice to the rest of what these boys and girls have to offer musically.
Nun werden sich einige Stimmen erheben, um anzumerken, dass Jazzrausch bereits einmal zuvor auf der Bühne der Matinee stand. Dies scheint unbestreitbar. Doch kommt hier und heute die Regel von der Ausnahme zum Zug, da sich der damalige Auftritt der Big Band dem Anlass entsprechend, ganz auf Weihnachten und die zu dem religiösen Fest passender Musik beschränkte. Es handelte sich um das Weihnachts-Spezial und wird dem nicht gerecht, was diese Jungs und Mädels musikalisch sonst noch zum Anbieten haben.
Jazzrausch is a German Big Band that has managed to bring the sound of jazz to the Dance-Floor in a big way. They have become one of the hottest big bands in Europe with their enormous stage presence, the intense power of their sound and the necessary groove. This is not to say that the "new" Jazz-Lovers in the Americas, Asia and Africa have not been aware of Jazzrausch for a long time now.
Bei ”Jazzrausch” handelt es sich um eine deutsche Big Band, die es auf eindrucksvolle Weise geschafft haben, den Sound des Jazz auf den Dance-Floor zu transportieren. Mit ihrer enorm starken Bühnenpräsenz, der intensiven Klanggewalt und dem notwendigen Groove, ist es der Formation gelungen, zu einer der angesagtesten Big Bands in Europa zu gehören. Was allerdings nicht zu bedeuten hat, dass nicht längst auch die “neuen” Jazz-Liebhaber in Amerika, Asien oder Afrika auf Jazzrausch aufmerksam wurden.
Munich-based music manager and trombonist Roman Sladek and composer and guitarist Leonhard Kuhn, who also lives in this Bavarian city, came up with the idea for the Jazzrausch-Project. And not in a recording studio or at home with a cup of coffee and a piece of cake, but in the "Harry Klein", probably the most famous Electro-Club in Europe. Exactly one year after the ingenious idea was born, Jazzrausch took to the stage of this Munich club for the very first time - and the audience went wild with enthusiasm.
Die Idee zu dem Projekt Jazzrausch kam von dem in München ansässigen Musikmanager und Posaunisten Roman Sladek und dem ebenfalls in der bayrischen Monopole wohnenden Komponisten und Gitarristen Leonhard Kuhn. Und zwar nicht in einem Tonstudio oder zuhause bei Kaffee und Kuchen, sondern im ”Harry Klein”, dem wohl bekanntesten Elektro-Club Europas. Exakt ein Jahr nach der zündenden Idee standen Jazzrausch erstmals auf der Bühne dieses Münchener Klubs – und das Publikum flippte vor Begeisterung schier aus.
As the number of musicians expanded, so did the stages on which the big band (which now lived up to its name) presented its modern style of jazz. Suddenly the doors opened not only to the Munich Philharmonic but also to the Lincoln Center in New York. Appearances at the JZ Festival in Shanghai, in Nairobi at the Safaricom International Jazz Festival, in Yekaterinburg and at SXSW in Austin/Texas followed.
Ähnlich der Mitgliederzahl der Musiker, wurde auch die Bühnen größer, auf denen die (jetzt auch der Bezeichnung gerecht werdenden) Big Band diese Form des modernen Jazz präsentierte. Plötzlich öffneten sich nicht nur die Türen zur Münchener Philharmonie, sondern auch die des Lincoln Center in New York. Zudem folgten Auftritte beim JZ-Festival in Shanghai, in Nairobi zum internationalen Jazzfestival Safaricom, in Jekaterinburg und beim SXSW in Austin/Texas.
Jazz critics, who are often described as snooty and arrogant, have this to say to the purists of jazz: "Today, more than ever before, this kind of jazz belongs in a drawer for everything that doesn't fit into any other drawer. And everyone (meaning the musicians as well as the audience) is having fun tearing down boundaries with relish. The music of the Jazzrausch Big Band seems to satisfy several desires. That of the clubbers for something more authentic, handmade, fresh and original. And that of jazz and classical music listeners for more oomph, entertainment with a big sound and a fat groove ".
Die oft als hochnäsig, arrogant bezeichnete Jazz-Kritik hat Folgendes für die Jazz-Puristen parat: “Dieser Jazz gehört heute mehr denn je die Schublade für all das, was sonst in keine Schublade passt. Und alle (damit gemeint, die Musiker wie das Publikum) haben Spaß am lustvollen Einreißen von Grenzen. Die Musik der Jazzrausch Big Band, so scheint es, erfüllt in diesem Zusammenhang mehrerlei Hinsicht Sehnsüchte. Die der Clubgänger nach mehr Echtem, Handgemachtem, Frischem, Originellem. Und die der Jazz- und Klassik-Hörer nach mehr Wumms, Unterhaltung mit großem Sound und fettem Groove.”
