Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.
So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:
Leagues of Votann, Brôkhyr Thunderkyn
10th Edition Index
The Thunderkyn are Votann who have turned a mining exo-frame into a weapon of war, allowing them to wield massive mining equipment or guns in battle against the enemy.
Thunderkyn are 85pts for 3 or 170pts for a unit of 6.
They are bought in a box set of 3 models for $60
Let's check its stats!
Stats
Movement 5"
Toughness 6
Save 3+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain) The invul is only against Ranged attacks.
Wounds 3
Ld 7+
OC 1
Weapons
Their base weapon is the Bolt Cannon, but this can be swapped out for either the SP conversion beamer or the Graviton blast cannon.
Ranged:
Bolt cannon
36" Range, 3 Attacks, Hitting on 4+, S6, AP -1 and 2 Damage
Sustained hits 1.
This is practically an Imperial Heavy Bolter with 1 extra point of Strength.
SP Conversion Beamer
24" Range, 1 Attack, Hitting on 4+, S7, AP -1 and 3 Damage
Sustained hits D3, Conversion
The Conversion Keyword - If the target is greater than 12" away, a 4+ scores a Critical Hit.
With Sustained Hits D3 this means that on a 4+, you roll a D3 and add that many shots to your rolls to Wound.
Graviton blast cannon
18" Range, D6 Attacks, Hitting on 4+, S5, AP -2 and 2 Damage
Blast, Anti-Vehicle 2+
A short ranged blast weapon that has the ability to wound any vehicle on a 2+!
Melee:
Close combat weapon
3 Attacks, Hitting on 4+, S4, Ap-2, 1 Damage each
Not much of a threat.
Abilities
Oathband Covering Fire
When using this unit for the Overwatch Stratagem, they hit on an unmodified dice roll of 5+ instead of 6's.
Thoughts
I feel as though the Thunderkyn can be built to deal with any sort of threat. 3 or even 6 Bolt Cannons might do well for doing the 5+ to shoot Overwatch.
The SP Conversion Beamer has less attacks but potentially felling a Terminator per failed armor save.
Finally, there is the Graviton Blast Cannon. This is amazing for taking out tanks and has a fair profile for shooting at light to medium infantry.
This is the 3rd Chaos Knights Datasheets reviewed putting them on 33% Completed and the total Completed on 8.03% Complete!
Thank you for reading!
