Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Library 65 - Aeldari, Nightspinner

Source

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!

Now known as the Unit Review Library!

What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!

In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.

So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:

Aeldari, Night Spinner

10th Edition Index

The wheel got us two pointy-eared entries in a row!

The Night Spinner is a artillery Tank. As far as I know, they were super broken at the start of 10th Edition, but things quietened down after a while. I don't see them run in such amounts but it still a pretty dangerous tank.

They cost 210pts to field this tank. It was probably cheaper before and with such a hectic cost, is probably the reason why people don't spam them.

The tank costs $60 on the warhammer.com webstore but is not available at the moment. Sometimes they do this and they are no longer going to be making that kit... no sweat for me though as I am not collecting them! lol

Let's check those stats!

Stats

Movement 14" (This is a real fast movement speed!)
Toughness 9
Save 3+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 12
Ld 6+ (Good Leadership for plebs)
OC 3

Weapons

The Night Spinner's main gun is the Doomweaver. It can then have either a Twin Linker Shuriken Catapult or a Shuriken Cannon... to be honest, I don't see why people would run it with the Catapult and not the Canon

Ranged:

Twin Shuriken Catapult
18" Range, 2 Shots, Hitting on 3+. S4, AP-1 and 1 Damage.
Assault and Twin-Linked

Shuriken cannon
24" Range, 3 Shots, Hitting on 3+. S6, AP-1 and 2 Damage.
Sustained Hits 1

Doomweaver
48" Range, D6+3 Shots, Hitting on 3+. S7, AP0 and 2 Damage.
Indirect Fire, Blast, Devastating Wounds, Twin-Linked

Right, so when shooting at a target it cannot trace a line of sight to, it is at a -1 to Hit, but it can still shoot targets that the opponent is trying to hide.

Blast means it gets extra shots for large crowds.

Twin-Linked means you re-roll failed Wound Rolls and Devastating Wounds mean that a 6 to Wound cuts through armor and Invul saves.

When you add Aeldari Fate Dice with this, you can have some Auto 6's meaning the Aeldari player can use this to cause a quick 2 Wounds guaranteed when it suits them.

Melee:

Wraithbone Hull is a tank melee profile... its not powerful.

Wraithbone hull
3 Attacks, Hitting on 4+, S6, AP0 and 1 Damage each.

Abilities

Monofilament Web

Standard "entangle" rule. Once this unit has hit something with the Doomweaver, select one unit hit by the weapon. Until the next turn, that unit is at -2 Movement and -2" on Advances and -2" on Charge Rolls

Thoughts

The main gun is quite scary. I can see why they were a menace. I think they were less than 200pts before and they got taken in 3's to lay down masses of Devastating Wounds. Also, Fate Dice worked differently early in 10th Edition and there were no limit to how many you could use.

Now with that changed to once per phase and a points bump, it is more regular to see these tanks competing for attention with other Aeldari options.

Thank you for reading!
