Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
However, on the 26th one, I have decided that it is big enough to call this series a Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.
So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:
Chaos Space Marines, Abbadon the Despoiler
10th Edition Index
Again, somehow rolling Supreme Leaders here!
Abbadon is the Warmaster, the chosen of the Four. The bearer of the mark of Chaos Ascendant. He is one of the biggest bad guys in the setting.
Many of the Chaos Legions follow his lead since he is in charge after Horus died fighting against the Emperor during the Horus Heresy.
Let's have a look at his stats.
Though he has that 3-tier special ability just like Magnus the Red... he is NOT a Primarch! He wishes! But he IS 310pts! Nearly Primarch cost!
Stats
He is a buff Infantry unit with all four Marks of Chaos.
Movement 5" (Terminator speed)
Toughness 5 (Terminator Toughness)
Save 2+/4++(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 9 (This is a lot of wounds for a Terminator Lord.)
Ld 5+
OC 4
Weapons
Ranged:
Talon of Horus - 24" Range, D4 Shots, Hitting on 2+, S5 AP-1, dealing 2 Damage Each. With Sustained Hits 1.
This is good anti-horde and anti-Space Marine
Melee:
Instead of the Strike/Sweep option, you have to choose between the Sword or the Talon:
Drach’nyen
8 Attacks, Hitting on 2+, Strength 14, Ap -4, and 3 Damage each.
Devastating Wounds.
So this is even more attacks than Magnus, lower Strength (Slightly, there are not make units with T13 or higher) and better AP.
Talon of Horus
14 Attacks, Hitting on 2+, Strength 7, Ap -3, and 1 Damage each.
Devastating Wounds
Loads of attacks to rake the Hordes to death.
Abilities
Dark Destiny
Chaos Space Marines have a rule called Dark pacts. It is where they take a Leadership test and get buffs. If they fail however, they take damage. Abbadon has a good leadership value. When he rolls a successful Dark Pact, roll another die, on a 2+, you gain 1 CP.
Simple and again, super valuable.
Warmaster
Like Magnus's Crimson King rule, Abbadon gets to switch on one of three rules at the start of your turn and is active till your next turn
The Warmaster abilities are:
Paragon of Hatred (Aura)
Friendly Heretic Astartes within 6" get to re-roll to Hit rolls. It is important to note here that this is for Ranged as well as Melee.
Mark of Chaos Ascendant (Aura)
Friendly Heretic Astartes units within 6" get a 4+ Invul save. This is a great durability buff.
Lord of the Traitor Legions (Aura)
Friendly Heretic Astartes units within 6" can re-roll Leadership tests and Battleshock tests. This means that units nearby will do better Dark Pacts.
Overall, you can switch on and off, durability and damage-dealing abilities. However, it seems that this would cause you to play a lot of key units near Abbadon... which can have its drawbacks... he already does cost a whopping 310pts...
He can lead Legionaries... but would you not want him to lead Chaos Terminators? In which case you are looking at another 185-370pts for a 5 man or 10 man unit... so a massive investment of points.
Thank you for reading!
