Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
However, on the 26th one, I have decided that it is big enough to call this series a Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.
So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:
Genestealer Cults, Aberants
10th Edition Index
The Genestealer Cults are an infestation, the deployment of a Tyranid bio-weapon to hijack the bodies and reproduction cycle of humans and other species.
Within their generations and within their number there are genetic deviants that appear known as Aberrants. These hulking and misshapen freaks would not be able to hide amongst humanity as covert agents, instead the Cult hides them away from official eyes.
When the time is right, these mutants are used as line-breakers or as bodyguards to leaders.
The have no ranged weapon options. The leader is called a Hypermorph and he comes with an extra attack from his tail. Otherwise the leader can either have the same weapon as the rest - the Heavy Power weapons, which I feel is the better option or change it out for a Heavy Improvised weapon.
180pts for 5 models, 360pts for 10 of them. Almost in the Space Marine Terminator level
Let's see their stats.
Stats
Movement 6"
Toughness 6 (Tougher than a Terminator! Tough as a Custodes!)
Save 5+/4+++(armor/invul/Feel No Pain) (Bad armor but 4+ Feel no Pain)
Wounds 5 (Plenty Wounds each!)
Ld 1+
OC 1
Weapons
Ranged:
None
Melee:
Heavy power weapon
3 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, Strength 8, Ap -2 and 3 Damage each.
Each! This is really good!
A unit of 5 would be dishing out 15 Attacks!
Heavy improvised weapon
5 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, Strength 6, Ap 0 and 2 Damage each.
I really do not see the point of getting 2 additional attacks that are weaker, have no AP and does less damage.
Hypermorph tail
1 Attack, Hitting on 3+, Strength 5, Ap 0 and 1 Damage each.
This is not really going to change the game results much but its an extra attack so why not?
Abilities
Feel no Pain 4+ and Deep Strike!
Thus they can be placed into reserves and appear anywhere on the battlefield as long as it is more than 9" away from an enemy unit.
Hulking Bodyguards
While being led by a character, if their squad is being hit by a weapon with Strength greater than their toughness, then subtract 1 from the Wound roll.
This is massive at their Toughness.
This is what it means:
S1-3 weapons need 6+ to Wound them
S4-5 weapons need 5+ to Wound them
S6-11 weapons need 4+ to Wound them
S12+ weapons need 3+ to Wound them
You can never get 2+ to Wound unless the Character dies or you have some other modifier!
Added to this is their ability to ignore damage due to their Feel No Pain.
I feel this is a strong unit!
Thank you for reading!
