Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Wheel 1 - Adeptus Custodes, Prosecutors

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here and this is the first Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!

This is a series where I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.

Yesterday, generating the example, I rolled the Adeptus Custodes and then rolled an L which slides down till it finds a unit, so P for Prosecutors is the unit! This shall be my first unit review!

Adeptus Custodes - Prosecutors

Who are the Prosecutors?

Prosecutors are used in the Codex Adeptus Custodes but they are NOT Custodes. Actually, they are members of an army called the Anathema Psykana - The Sisters of Silence.

This is a sisterhood of psychic nulls that are used by the Custodes to fight against Psykers and Daemons.

Prosecutors in the game

There are several different types of Sisters of Silence units in the army, the Prosecutors are very plain and not really all that special. They are all armed with boltguns and wear power armor.

This means a Toughness of 3 with a 3+ Armor save and a single wound. They are Battleline so they have Objective Control 2.

The boltgun is the standard 1 Shot, Rapid Fire 1 (so 2 shots at half range) with Strength 4, AP 0 and Damage 1

This unit does have some abilities and no surprise they are tuned towards anti-psyker ability:

So... to break this down... If they get hurt by an ability with the "Psychic" keyword, then if it Hits them and Wounds them and they fail whatever Save they get, they then take each point of Damage and roll a die. On a 3 and above they IGNORE the wound! This is what Feel No Pain 3+ against Psychic Attacks means.

Additionally, while their guns may be underwhelming normally, should they target a Psyket unit, their RANGED attacks (the bolters) gain the Precision and Devastating Wounds abilities.

This means, should there be a Psyker in a squad, usually a leader can only be hurt once the unit has died around him. Precision attacks can target the Character Psyker specifically.

Devastating Wounds causes To Wound rolls of a 6 to ignore all armor saves and invulnerable saves!

However, the true strength or usefulness of the Prosecutors as a unit lies in their ability to fill a gap in the roster too small for big points Custodes units to fill. This unit can be run as a 40pts, 50pts, 90pts and 100pts group. So they are always 10pts a model.

This unit can then run around completing secondary objectives or sitting on objectives while the Custodes do the heavy lifting. If I had to fight a 2000pts battle against Custodes and there is a 40pts squad of these, I would be hard-pressed to find the time to kill them.

Custodes are hard to kill and I would be busy focussed on that. I woulf only be able to deal with the Prosecutors if they happened to be exposed and I had a unit nearby not doing anything more useful!

And there you go. A fairly comprehensive review of the first unit in this list!

Let's see what unit I roll next time!

Thank you for reading!
