In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.
So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:
Black Templars, The Emperor's Champion

The Black Templar's Chapter is a fleet-based successor Chapter of the Imperial Fists. Their first Chapter Master, Sigismund vowed to never stop Crusading.
Sigismund was a Space Marine, known as the best swordsman in the Legion and possibly across most Legions he was unparalleled, able to hold his own against most of the Primarchs even!
Every Crusade of Black Templars chooses one Champion to be the Emperor's Champion. He is an Epic Hero choice for the Black Templars, not because he is a unique hero, but to limit you to the use of ONE of these characters in a regular army.
In truth, there would be several marines with this title and function in the galaxy, each part of a different Black Templar crusade.
He costs 75pts to field
The model costs $40!
Thus 131 Hive at current prices!

Save 2+/4++(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)

Weapons
Ranged:
A most basic Bolt Pistol, just like Lazarus in the previous report... they could have given him something more interesting...
12" Range, 1 Shot, Hitting on 2+. S4, AP0 and 1 Damage.
It has the Pistol Keyword of course.
Melee:
This weapon is insane! The Black Sword can be used either in a Sweep profile or a Strike and it has some amazing stats!
Black Sword - Sweep:
10 Attacks, Hitting on 2+, S6, AP-2 and 1 Damage each.
This is a great Anti-Horde, capable of killing a good 6-8 Orks or Termagaunts in a single round!
Black Sword - Strike:
6 Attacks, Hitting on 2+, S8, AP-3 and 3 Damage each.
Precision!
Not only does this sword hit with the force of a Power Fist, it has better AP and Damage and it has the Precision rule, meaning that you can target the Characters in a unit with these strikes.
Never mind killing all the Orks first! Kill that Warboss first while the unit he leads can damage the Orks in the unit!
Abilities
Sigismund’s Heir
When this model is attacking a target with the Character Keyword, add +1 to the to Wound roll! This means, if you needed a 3+ to Wound a Toughness 5/6/7 Character with that Strike, you would get +1 to the roll, so your 2's count as 3's.
Skilful Parry
Once per phase in Melee he can turn incoming damage of a failed saving throw to 0 Damage
Thoughts
The Emperor's Champion seems like an auto-include to me! Put him in and make that enemy struggle to avoid him in melee. He can lead a fair amount of different units and while he does not boost anyone, he is a great addition to any assault unit. In fact, the other units can buff him instead!
