Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Library 67 - T'au Empire, Stealth Battlesuits

Source

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!

Now known as the Unit Review Library!

What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!

In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.

So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:

T'au Empire, Stealth Battlesuits

10th Edition Codex

Another entry for the tricksy and shoot Tau. The Stealth Battlesuit is the smallest of the Battlesuits employed by the Tau Empire but they are tactically vesitile.

They main purpose is to assist other Battlesuits but are often used in units of 3's to complete objectives.

They are 60pts for a unit of 3, 120pts for a unit of 6.

One in 3 can be equipped with a battlesuit support system and the Shas’vre has a homing beacon and up to 2 Drones.

Let's check those stats!

Stats

Movement 8" - Fast!
Toughness 4
Save 3+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 2
Ld 7+
OC 1

Weapons

Ranged:

The whole unit is Equipped with Burst Cannons but one in 3 can have a Fusion Blaster. Usually, they are then equipped with the Fusion and 2 Burst Cannons.

Burst Cannon
18" Range, 4 Shots, Hitting on 4+. S5, AP0 and 1 Damage.

Fusion Blaster
12" Range, 1 Shot, Hitting on 4+. S9, AP-4 and D6 Damage.
With Melta 2.

Melee:

Battlesuit Fists
2 Attacks, Hitting on 5+, S4, AP0 and 1 Damage each.

Wargear Abilities

Battlesuit Support System - 1 in 3 Battlesuits can have this system, this model can shoot when the unit has done a Fall Back move.

The Shas'vre (Squad leader) can have 2 Drones. They do the following:

Gun Drone: The bearer has an extra gun.
Twin Pulse Carbine
20" Range, 2 Shots, Hitting on 5+. S5, AP0 and 1 Damage.
Assault, Twin-Linked

Shield Drone: +1 Wound

Marker Drone: The unit gains the Markerlight keyword and can be an Observer unit even if they have Advanced.

Homing Beacon: Once per game, you can use the Rapid Ingress Stratagem for 0CP. The unit must come down within 3" of this unit and outside 9" of enemy units.

Abilities

Infiltrators, Stealth

Forward Observers

When this unit is an Observer for another unit, the Guided unit can re-roll Hit rolls of 1 and Wound rolls of 1.

Thoughts

For 60pts they are really good value for points. They have enough on them to hurt anything but not be so dangerous that they out-value other things in a Tau army I would rather want to destroy instead.

Their ability makes them dangerous though.

A Marker Drone would probably be the go-to for them. Shield Drone would be a likely second. The Gun Drone is not bad either.

Thank you for reading!
