Hellow everyone!
I hope the week has been a good one. I finally wrapped up a 50k-word project and I couldn't be happier. It has been a month-long project with well over 400 references and I am now exhausted. Can't wait to be paid for it!
Anyway, here's a continuation of what @zakludick wrote on Monday. I hope you all enjoy it!
Adrian gripped Vitex’s arm hard. He refused to have another incident. When the goddess turned to him in disgust he only pointed at the newly named Rex Fortis and Millmor, who was steadily trying to get his feet under him. He didn’t need to say anything. Vitex blushed deeply and muttered.
“Never mind.”
“Good.” Snapped the prince.
He stared at Rex a little longer before his gaze settled on Millmor. The Ghoul King had also changed, that was evident as one of his eyes had taken on the colour that had been Rex’s not too long ago.
“Millmor, instead of sending Rex on some make-believe quest, perhaps you can give some suggestions on what the new Ghoul King could really be doing.”
Everyone turned to the prince before looking at Rex. He was right. He wasn’t a simple ghoul. He was bigger and stronger, and Adrian didn’t doubt for a second that with enough training, this once man would become every bit as powerful as Millmor.
Millmor collapsed on his behind and looked to where Rex was still kneeling. He had wondered what had happened to some of his power and now that he was staring in one of his own eyes in another face he understood. He chuckled and scratched at his thick hair.
“Aye Prince, he is part Ghoul King. I don’t know how much of me is in him, but he is no mere mortal anymore.”
Magna, together with Derric, helped Millmor to his feet and the Ghoul King staggered his way to Rex still remained kneeling. He looked disgusted and horrified with what had happened. Millmor wanted to comfort him, but in his heart, he knew there would be animosity. It was the reason Ghoul Kings had such large territories and never crossed into another’s. At least that was how it had been in the past. Millmor had killed all the Ghoul Kings he had known about so many years ago.
“My forest is yours to rule if you so wish.” Said Millmor.
Rex frowned, “That is no quest for a knight.”
“True, but the days will burn your skin until you have aged a bit. You will need to cover up well as you travel. Having a piece of land to call your own will allow you to rest. You will likely not need to have a dirt pit like me, and the ghouls will know you as they know me.”
“What is the quest?”
“Within the forest, there are ruins. Ruins that below to Derric’s parents. I have never been able to step foot within them before. Likely due to the charm on Derric, but you should be able to.”
“And with his training should be able to find something we can work with to find out why my people were destroyed.” Said Derric with a cheer.
Derric turned to Rex and said, “Will you accept my rule?”
Rex looked uncomfortable before saying, “I have sworn fealty to the Queen.”
Derric looked disappointed but then Magna whispered something in his ear. He couldn’t help but grin.
“Would you consider being an exchange knight for my kingdom by the leave of your princess?” asked Derric.
“That I can do.” Rex got to his feet before effortlessly pulling Millmor to his feet.
Rex seemed surprised and Millmor chuckled.
“Get used to it, you’ll only get stronger as you age. You’ll grow wings by the time you reach 250.”
Rex lost all colour in his face and looked to Vitex.
“You made me IMMORTAL!”
Millmor added a hand to his shoulder to calm him. “Not immortal, very long lived, but I can’t tell you by how much.”
“Honestly, think of all the good you could do for our kingdom as a protector with a long life.” Said Magna. “You don’t even need to reveal yourself if you’re so concerned about Anna seeing you like this.”
Rex looked at his large hands and sighed deeply. Finally, he nodded his head, “I can use this.”
Mortis put a hand forward and Rex stared at it stupidly.
“I see you as equal to us in this quest. I will ensure that Anna is cared for if you are concerned about that.”
A smile broke across Rex’s face, and he grasped the revenant’s hand in a firm handshake. He then gave each person in the group a smile then turned to Millmor.
“I don’t suppose you would accompany me back to the forest to introduce me to the citizens.”
Millmor looked to Derric and the young forest prince gave a single nod of his head.
“I am sure we will be returning soon anyway, then we could talk.”
Millmor looked sad but nodded his head, “We will talk.”
Then, without taking any previsions, the two half-Ghoul kings made their way back home.
Magna then grabbed her brother and turned him to Lucien, who was viewing all this with a stony face.
“We owe you an apology, Lucien.” Said Magna as she elbowed her brother.
Adrian didn’t look like he wanted to apologise but eventually, he too nodded his head and muttered something under his breath.
“I treated you poorly, but I was short on time. Please accept my apology for treating you so poorly when you did everything to assist us in keeping our uncle and aunt alive.”
A faint smile played on the Lifedrinker’s face. He inclined his head slightly to the princess before turning to Adiran.
“Do we truly end our years of friendship here?”
Adiran grinned, “I will leave that up to you.”
“We still need to discuss our guest who still slumbers.”
Adiran groaned and nodded his head, “Come, let us check on his well-being before we get some rest in.”
Back in your court Zak!
