Introduction

I started compiling these lists in December 2020 to continue something @pennsif used to do as I think it helps bring the community together. Since then I have found lots more people to include. @HiveSQL has been really useful for this. I was using beem to generate this post, but that is not in active development and I found HiveSQL could do it much quicker. I use Python for most things. Some of the post is manual as I like to include some commentary and I will keep tweaking it. I am open to suggestions for improvements. I aim to do a fresh list on the first Saturday of each month.

I also rely on the community to let me know of more people to include who may not have obvious account metadata. You can find me in the @teamuksupport Discord to discuss it or drop me a comment.

Those based in the UK can use the #teamuk tag for an extra vote. If you see people using it on non-relevant posts then drop them a friendly comment to point out that is not encouraged.

The list will include anyone living in the UK as well as Brits who have moved abroad. Inclusion on this list does not mean I recommend people, but I will remove accounts if they are known to be abusing Hive or are falsely reporting their location. I can also remove anyone who asks me to. If you have lost control of your account through phishing or other means then let me know so that I can update your entry.

The code to produce this post is on Github. People are welcome to use it for their own regional version. I can help you with that if necessary.

What it means

The numbers above are for those who had posted or commented in the previous month. In the lists below I break each region into three lists:

• Active as above.
• Just voting. I will guess that a lot of these use automatic votes, e.g. HiveVote. Previously there were some that appear to have been compromised as they vote for known abusers. Those are now excluded until I hear that they have recovered control.
• Inactive in the last month, but most have done something since Hive started. We can hope to bring them back.

I want to count people rather than accounts as some have several. I can include those in brackets if you want. Let me know if you want me to update your listing. You can be as specific as you like about your location. Otherwise I will use what is on your profile or what I am told or can deduce from your posts.

Other Countries

• @michelmake does a list for the Netherlands using a version of my scripts. He improved the account levels chart and I have taken that code to use here.

If you want to produce a similar list for your country then I may be able to help. It is up to you to maintain the list, but I can run initial queries and generate the posts if you cannot do it. It just requires some simple Python tools, so I expect you can find someone who can run those.

Commentary

Numbers are down again this month. I am sure a lot of people will blame the slump in the $HIVE price, but then the markets are down generally. I just keep posting as anything I earn will gain value when the price recovers. I am also buying a little each month and I get more when the price is lower. I have some personal targets for the year. I also find Hive fun as I get so much engagement here.

In positive news, two more people moved up to Orca level.

Hive is about real people and meeting them in person brings this home. Just yesterday I met up with @bobbyb58, @alessandrawhite, @anna-newkey and @mcsamm (who came along later) in my home town of Bedford. I got to show them around some of my old haunts. Whenever Hivers get together cool things happen and the conversations are intense. This is part of why I do this list as it can help in organising such events. This one was set up at short notice and it seems that @heruvim1978 heard about afterwards, but could have attended. The @buzzparty project aim to help publicise such events. I intend to do another this year. As I keep saying it is just a matter of setting a date and place. You do not need to book a venue if you can meet at a cafe or pub, or just in a park. What matters is the people who turn up.

I will publicise any meetups I am aware of on these posts and elsewhere.

We do need more activity. If you have friends who have not been active then encourage them to come back. I make sure my feed is full of interesting posts. It can be more fun than certain other social platforms that bombard you with ads and 'suggested content' you do not care about. We need that 'critical mass' of people to make it work better.
