Intervertebral discs can be found between vertebrae in the spine. They allow slight movement and act as shock absorption. If your discs are weak, they may bulge, pinch the nerve and cause sciatica for example. That sharp pain and inability to move if you lift wrong way, that is the disc protruding. If back pain exists and your muscles are strong, it is probably disc problems you might have.
Interestingly, #running can strengthen the disc and improve material properties of the spine. (1) This is the principle of adapting to progressive load. Similar way your bones and muscles get stronger when you load them with force.
So, if running can strengthen discs and part of lower back problems are caused by them, we can conclude that the majority of problems caused by disc issues can be eliminated with #jog (28-60km per week, for the citated study).
Great way of preventing problems while potentially saving money on health expenses. This does not incorporate other health benefits of #jogging like cardiovascular improvement, insulin or metabolism regulation or muscle development.
