A Small Step Toward a Healthier Lifestyle With a Delicious Bowl of Fish Soup!
Today, I felt a little more motivated than usual to make some changes to my lifestyle. And by changes, I mean shifting from my usual "I don't care much about my health" attitude to something like "I actually want to take better care of myself!" LOL.
I know it sounds like a simple realization, but I think it's something that I've been putting aside for quite some time. Since I'm getting older, I figured that I should start paying more attention to my health, especially when it comes to the food that I eat.
Actually, my motivation came from one of the Hivegrove players whom I frequently engage with. Their posts are often about being "health lovers," and I noticed that they are actually in good physical shape. Seeing how dedicated they are to maintaining a healthy lifestyle made me realize that I could probably achieve something similar if I put enough effort into it.
Of course, I couldn't just snap my fingers and suddenly become a fitness enthusiast overnight. That would be amazing though! LOL.
So instead of making drastic changes, I figured that starting with my food choices would be a more realistic approach.
And that's exactly what I did for tonight's dinner!
I decided to visit Geylang Bahru Food Centre to order something light, nutritious, and satisfying. Since I'm already a fan of soup dishes, choosing a bowl of fish soup seemed like the perfect option for my new health-conscious mindset.
I went straight to one of my favorite stalls that serves a variety of fish dishes. I've ordered from this stall before, and I appreciate the quality of their food, especially considering how affordable their prices are.
For tonight, I ordered their sliced fish soup for SGD 6.00 and added a bowl of steamed white rice for just SGD 0.50.
That brings my dinner to a total of SGD 6.50, which I think is a pretty reasonable price for a meal that comes with fresh fish, tofu, and plenty of vegetables.
What I like the most about this dish is the simplicity of its flavors. The soup has a light and clear broth that makes it easy to appreciate the natural taste of the ingredients. It's not the kind of soup that relies on an overpowering seasoning to make it enjoyable.
The sliced fish was definitely one of the highlights of this meal. It was tender, fresh, and had a delicate texture that I really enjoyed. I also appreciate that the fish was served without any heavy sauce or deep-fried coating.
Another nice addition was the tofu. Its soft and smooth texture complemented the fish quite well, making the overall dish even more enjoyable.
And of course, the vegetables!
There was a generous amount of leafy vegetables, seaweed, and even some bitter gourd strips. I especially enjoyed the bitter gourd because of its interesting flavor and slightly firm texture. The mild bitterness actually works nicely with the light soup.
It's been a while since I last had this dish, so I was really enjoying every spoonful of it tonight.
Overall, I'm happy with my dinner choice. It's affordable, satisfying, and has a good variety of ingredients that fit the healthier eating habits I'm trying to develop.
I understand that eating one healthy meal doesn't automatically make me a healthy person. LOL. But I believe that making small improvements consistently is much better than simply thinking about making changes without actually doing anything.
Hopefully, tonight's dinner will be the beginning of a more health-conscious lifestyle for me.
And if eating healthy means enjoying more delicious bowls of fish soup like this one, then I think I'm going to enjoy this journey!
Bon appétit!
