Mexican Murals - A Low-End Mural on Cozumel [CCC's Street Art Contest #39]

As I keep mentioning, in almost all of my recent entries to CCC's weekly Street-Art Contest, the murals on the Rivera Maya (Mexico's Caribbean coast) are of a whole different level. This goes not only for the quantity, but the overall quality. Most of the muralism of the area is organized, as you can see on the Sea Wall page. But then there is also a lot of unaffiliated street art, which does not mean they have to be of lesser quality. Such as the one I picked for this week's contest.

The Main Feature: A Xoloescuincle

Look at this friendly face! It's a dog, as Mexican as one can be. Along with the Chihuahua, these guys are THE native dogs of Mexico. Being of medium size and weight, they are known for their mostly hairless bodies. Some escuincles are completely nude, others such as this one, have a small tuft of hair on their heads and the tips of their tail. In precolombian times they were bred for their meat, but since then they have learned to enjoy human companionship (once people stopped eating them, I guess).

No Closer Info

And that's it, folks. I wish I could tell you about the artist, or even give you the exact location. (It's somewhere in the center of the only town on Cozumel, but I can't remember where I took the pic.) As for the artist, maybe the four letters around the dog are an indicator? But what are they? GRIE, CRIE, GRIZ, CRIZ? Who knows, it may as well be the name of the dog. But hey, maybe you guys can help me out here! I know, some of you have helped me identify artists before. If not, well, just enjoy the cute look of this hairless fella.
