Mexican Murals - Fantastic Critters in Jardín Balbuena [CCC's Street Art Contest #25]

For this week's Street Art Contest by CCC I decided to post a mural I found on the other side of Mexico City, from where I live. We had to go to the neighborhood Jarín Balbuena to take our dog to the vet who performs acupuncture therapy (I know: superfresa, right?), and on a wall just behind her office, just off of Rtno. 28 Genaro Garcia, I came across this wonderful image. The only unfavorable factor was just that at the moment it was half illuminated by the sun, while the other half remained in the shadow.

It shows two animals of the mystical mythical kind facing each other. The one on the left looks quite feline, like some sort of a tiger, wearing a round rug on its back. Its feet and neck are chained, though apparently the cat must have broken them, as they don't appear to be restricting it in any way.

The other animal is more difficult to define. It also seems to be some type of cat, maybe the a jaguar, originally endemic to this region. Its depiction looks very flowery, though, with interesting patterns decorating its body that would overwhelm your usual jaguar print. Especially the head looks so overdecorated that it really brings to mind prehispanic art.

Once again, there is no name tag or signature identifying the artist, but the style looks a lot like the Kiss of Death mural, I posted about more than a year ago. Maybe one of the two muralists who created that image might have been the artist behind this wall painting too.
