Yesterday I decided to go for a jog with my wife—something that not only helps us stay active but also gives us those special moments to share together. I had planned to run about 6 kilometers, a simple routine I like to follow to stay in shape. However, the reality of a run sometimes adapts to what our bodies and the moment dictate, and instead of counting kilometers, I ended up focusing on the time: 34 minutes on the move.
What made this run different was the conversation I had with my wife as we jogged. It’s not always easy to find time to talk without distractions, and this occasion allowed us to connect in a simple yet profound way. Between laughter and conversation, time just flew by. It was a beautiful reminder that exercise not only strengthens the body but also our relationships.
When the weather took a turn and a light rain began to fall, I decided it was time to head back. I didn’t want to risk getting wet because I’m currently battling a bad flu and needed to take care of my health so I could recover soon. Sometimes, knowing when to stop is just as important as giving it our all.
This little adventure left me with several reflections. First, that exercising shouldn’t be a rigid obligation, but rather a moment to enjoy ourselves and take care of ourselves. Second, that walking or running with others can transform a routine into a more meaningful and human experience. And finally, that listening to our bodies is essential, even more so when our health is at stake.
Going for a jog yesterday was much more than just a workout; it was a moment of connection, learning, and self-care. And even though the original plan changed, I think those 34 minutes were absolutely worth it.
