Howdy, beautiful souls in the Hive :)
And the weekend has arrived! Yay!
The husband went out this morning and having no special plans for the day, oh well, except the usual things I do online and offline, I stayed and after a while thought of checking our lil pantry. There I found a box of Taheebo Herbal Tea which the husband may have brought home from the city last week but haven't spoken about it. It was probably from her younger sister who markets coffee, tea and stuff.
My mind had a bit of a debate whether or not I'd try it out, and the more adventurous side won so it got me heating water while scrutinizing the content. The packaging says "Guaranteed Pure & Natural, Direct from Brazil." I wonder if it's from there...
So this is how it started. Soaking the tea bag with the hot water on my antique glass tea cup.
Five minutes later and it was finally tea time! There was no strong flavor and aroma that I had to take my nose very close to the cup's rim to be able to smell a nice hint of something I don't really know. The taste was gentle which my sensitive stomach liked and appreciated. I opted not to add sugar or honey to it. The taste was just okay for me, nothing harsh at first sip and until I finished the whole cup. I even heard my mind saying, "Hmmm... Nice!"
I reckoned the tea needed a partner so I had some small slices of Ube Bar and a piece of sweet basic Hopia, both are the husband's favorites and I enjoy them from time to time too.
By 10:30 am, I felt like my stomach had been scraped empty which is really odd because I had ube and hopia just two hours ago. Such pang I can only associate with the drink. I just feel so hungry, lol!
Wanting to learn more about the tea and its benefits, I hit my browser's search bar and found out that "research is lacking on the beneficial effects of taheebo on humans," and that there are side effects too, where the tea "may cause stomachache, diarrhea and nausea. Some may even vomit, will have mild dizziness, and taheebo can turn urine pink." (Source)
Also learned that one shouldn't have the tea while taking medications such as warfarin, heparin, aspirin and ibuprofen (LivingStrong.)
Thankfully, I had none of the side effects mentioned above except the hunger, lol! I can say it was a good try. And I may have a cup again one of these days :) Of course, it is duly noted that moderate consumption is key!
So yes, that's just how my Saturday morning went, a rather sweet dilly-dally with my pantry-find, the Taheebo Tea. And I still have the afternoon and it excites me to discover what else this day has in store for me!
