Morning Coffee
I think that if there’s one thing most people around the world agree on, it’s that when we wake up in the morning, we always have some kind of routine. In Venezuela, waking up in almost every home is marked by the unmistakable aroma of coffee; brushing our teeth, washing our faces, and getting ready to make this drink is a tradition we pass down from generation to generation, and—without even realizing it—it has become part of who we are.

It’s no secret that this country is one of the world’s largest consumers of coffee, and almost all of its production stays in the domestic market. This drink accompanies us at almost every moment of our lives, but it becomes essential in the early hours of the morning, since a good sip of freshly brewed coffee provides an immediate energy boost that drives away the spirit of laziness, while activating all our systems—in a matter of minutes—leaving us ready to face a new day.
Today, I’d like you to join me for a breakfast that’s a bit unusual for my taste, since I usually go for an arepa, a roll, or something a bit more traditional. But this time, I decided to pair my morning cup of coffee with some delicious oatmeal cookies I baked myself yesterday.
Maybe today I needed to wake up with that sweet taste on my palate, since right from the start I know it’s going to be a busy day—one where I’ll have to go out several times to run various errands, deal with a few situations, and at the same time set aside special time for work matters. But I’m absolutely certain that I can get through all of this smoothly thanks to the benefits of my morning coffee.
Fortunately, today is a pleasant day, with the city kicking off its day as energetically as ever, with a vibrant atmosphere and a sun brimming with energy.
