It's a bright weekend, and gentle silence fills the air. We usually hear murmurs of the neighbors' kids walking by each morning, but not today. There is no school after all. Surprisingly, no vehicles or motorbikes are passing by either. It seems people on this lil mountainside have collectively decided to hit the pause button and have a more laid-back day.

"Look around, there aren't any souls walking or working. Where do you think they are?" The husband once observed in the first week of our stay here over two years ago. In the other town, people would be buzzing early, even on weekends. They are usually active, always moving, rushing, coming and going.

It's different here. No hurried footsteps, no roaring engines. That's probably why we enjoy hitting the brakes too. We appreciate the slow, restful-paced mornings and consider them a gift. They beckon us to enjoy the stillness, to exist in the present moment without feeling the need to be productive. The calmer, unrushed atmosphere kind of tames the mind, drawing it away from its cyclical monologues and leading it into a more reflective, serene state.

In the sanctuary of quietness, the pressure to achieve or do more disappears. Comparison dissolves. We realize that life doesn't always require a sprint; that progress can happen when we choose to stand or sit still. It encourages us to step away from the frantic rhythm of everyday life, slow down, and breathe in sync with those around us, and in the process, discover that the sweetest moments are found NOT in the constant chase, but in the quiet spaces in between.

DD might have been our third place, but it is a sweet, quiet, and nurturing haven we now call home.

And yeah, a really slow, lazy weekend is loading...
