This is where I had my dinner last night.
At a coffee shop that sells beer and cider. Yes... a coffee shop that sells beer and cider.
I was at an airport, traveling to Cape Town to see my children.
I love traveling. I love dancing. And I love coffee.
I guess it's the dopamine hit.
I'm participating in the #TCSP initiative by the Cinnamon Cup Coffee Community this week. I've been meaning to write for this community for some time now, but I mostly drink my coffee at home, these days, because of a life challenge that's made coffee shops unaffordable for some time.
Thank fuck I just landed a new job that might change this for good. And now I might be able to get out and about and enjoy some coffee in some new places. And some old places that I would like to visit again.
Like that French coffee shop I was in many moons ago in Paris. With my sexy French DJ boyfriend.
Back then, I thought 40 Rand for a cup of coffee was expensive and it was. This was back in the 90s when the French Franc was still 4 to 1. The South African Rand was stronger back then and it made it easier to travel.
These days we can't even afford coffee. Back in Paris in the 90s, my French was sketchy at best. And I can hardly remember any of it now. But I still remember that coffee shop.
Mirrors from the countertop to the ceiling. The proverbial French decor and the excellent, excellent (!) coffee.
I think that was my first introduction to decent coffee. In South Africa we didn't have coffee shops like this yet. The only coffee I was used to drinking was instant. And filtered at work.
It's on my bucket list. To return to Paris with my children with me.
To show them the sights and the sounds and the smell of good European coffee.
Until then we will have to live vicariously through all of these amazing posts and people on Hive.
Happy traveling and good coffee to you all.
