I visited Cape Town last weekend and finally got a decent walk in.
This is a famous place in Cape Town called Fish Hoek beach, in the False Bay area.
It was misty when I arrived but the sun came out and burned it off within half an hour.
False Bay is well known for its Great White sharks and subsequence plentiful shark attacks.
There's a true story, that does the rounds regularly, about an elderly lady who used to swim at Fish Hoek beach every morning. She was attacked by a Great White and all they found was her bathing cap.
It was right roundabout here.
This area used to be frequented by a Great White shark known as the submarine because it was so big, but nobody knows which shark got the little old lady.
You can see that they take the shark spotting very seriously because it is a real danger in this area.
I don't know if The Submarine is still around. I'm not a big ocean swimmer because of the waves and an incident in my youth where I almost drowned because of a strong tide.
But I did walk along the promenade and got some pictures of the area for Hive and the #WednesdayWalk initiative by @tattoodjay.
Here are some future shark spotters. They are basically lifeguards in training, training and I had to get a shot of them because adorable.
Don't stress too much about safety.
The municipality has put shark nets up all along the main shoreline now.
All you have to do to stay safe is make sure there are swimmers a few yards further out than you are!
