Wednesday Walk: National Mall

I am so excited to take you on today's Wednesday Walk. It is in one of my favorite cities- Washington DC!

I lived in DC for six wonderful years. I go back often, at least once a year. Today we are going to walk down the National Mall.

We started our walk at the Hirshorn Gallery and walked to the Tidal Basin and back up to the National Gallery of Art.

Hirshorn

The Hirshorn is modern art gallery and it has a very interesting exhibit on it. Yep, Nicolas Party's Draw the Curtain is a polyester work of art on the building. It looks super cool.

Map

Here is the map of our walk. My Google Fit says we walked 6.45 miles and 5 hours and 19 minutes. I highlighted the walk in red and the places we stopped our took pictures in blue.

Arts and Industry

The Arts and Industry building is a very beautiful multicolored building with one of my favorite gardens in DC surrounding it.

Look at this plant. It is protecting itself!

Smithsonian Castle

You have to see the Smithsonian Castle while in DC. It is a beautiful building. If you would like to know more about the architecture I did a post Art Talk: Smithsonian Castle and Gothic Revival Architecture

When you are an Arizona girl that loves green and grass you take pictures of the grass on the mall too.

National Museum of African American History and Culture

This is a new museum that was built in 2016.

Washington Monument

You can see the Washington Monument from all over DC.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing

This is where some of the money in the United States is printed.

Jefferson Memorial

A stunning neoclassical memorial in honors of Thomas Jefferson. Here is a post with more detail. Share Our World: Jefferson Memorial

Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial

I was very distracted talking on the phone with Chipotle about my catering order for later that night. I did get one picture

Make a career of humanity commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights you will make a greater person of yourself a greater nation of your country and a finer world to live in. 1959

Martin Luther King Memorial

This is also a relatively new memorial. It was built in 2011.

Korean Memorial

It was so special that when we walked up to the memorial there were veterans from Nevada visiting the memorial together. I got a picture as they were leaving.

My dad served during the Korean war in Japan so when I come here I also think of my dad. I am so grateful for all those men and women who sacrificed so much to serve our country.

More beautiful green

Lincoln Memorial.

A stunning memorial in honors of Abraham Lincoln the 16th president of the United States. Here is a post about the Lincoln Memorial

The Three Soldiers

This is a little known and very powerful statue as you are going to the Vietnam memorial. It is one of my favorite.

Vietnam Memorial

This is a very moving memorial and while we were there the park rangers were helping people find the names of their loved ones.

Constitution Garden

In all the time that I have walked around the National Mall this was the first time I had noticed the Constitution Garden. It is so beautiful!

World War II Memorial

This memorial has a special place in my heart since it was built while I was living in DC. It is fun to walk around it and find the states that have special meaning to you.

This time I noticed the really great bronze relief statues.

I really like this one with the family all around the radio.

Here is a shadow of Jodi and walking.

Food Trucks

We had a short break for lunch at the food trucks.

National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden

The National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden is a wonderful outdoor art space. It also has a food area and a fountain in the summer and a ice rink in the winter. For more details see Art Talk: National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden

National Gallery of Art

We ended at my favorite place in DC. I feel like this museum is like a home. I feel so comfortable walking around the galleries.

Here is happy Sara outside the museum.
