After having spent more than a month among the mountainous and clay landscapes around the city of San Juan, I knew it was time to go see what was beyond. One might think that traveling is tiring, but if your motivation is to discover new places, how far away seems close. Since they recommended that I take a trip to the valley 250 km from the city, I decided that I had to go, and when everything finally fell into place for it to happen, I packed my things and went to visit it. And the recommendations ended up being good, because it was a very nice place ❣️.

Después de haber estado más de un mes entre los paisajes montañosos y arcillosos de los alrededores de la ciudad de San Juan, supe que era tiempo de ir a ver qué había más allá. Uno podría pensar que viajar cansa, pero si tu motivación es conocer uno y otros luagres nuevos, lo lejos parece cerca. Desde que me recomendaron que me haga una escapada hasta el valle a 250 km de la ciudad decidí que tenía que ir, y cuando por fin todo se acomodó para que así sea, guardé mis cosas y me fui a visitarlo. Y las recomendaciones terminaron siendo buenas, porque era un lugar muy lindo ❣️.

--- --- The city of San Juan was already seeming very calm and relaxed to me, but this town was a thousand times better in terms of security and peace. I don't think I have ever visited a place as calm as this before, where at siesta time there is no one on the street and people only come out in the afternoon, when the heat finally calmed down a little. On the walks I took I met few people, and later I understood that it was a matter of schedules 😅.

La ciudad de San Juan ya me estaba pareciendo muy tranquila y relajada, pero este pueblo era mil veces mejor en cuanto a seguridad y paz. Creo que nunca antes había visitado un lugar tan calmado como este, en donde a la hora de la siesta no hay nadie en la calle y la gente recién se asoma en horas de la tarde, cuando el calor por fin se tranquilizó un poco. En los paseos que dí me crucé con poca gente, y después entendí que era una cuestión de horarios 😅.

--- After making the most of renting the bike, I went to rest my legs at a viewpoint that was on the corner of the hostel where I stayed. Well, rest for a while because I had to climb a few steps to get there. At that moment I was able to witness a soccer game, quite crowded with fans and everything. After all, St. Augustine was not a ghost town 😅.

Después de exprimir al máximo el alquiler de la bicileta, fui a descansar las piernas a un mirador que estaba en la esquina del hostel donde me hospedé. Bueno, descansar un rato porque tuve que subir unos cuantos escalones para llegar hasta ahí. En ese momento pude presenciar un partido de futbol, bastante concurrido con hinchada y todo. Al fin de cuentas, San Agustín no era un pueblo fantasma 😅.

--- This viewpoint was not that high but high enough to have a 360° view of the valley. I was surprised at how small this place was: with just a few blocks around, you could see the edges of the town. And above all, how green and bright it looked. This entire area, called Valle Fértil, concentrates the best fields for growing olive and fruit trees. And it is surprising that it is practically surrounded by a parched desert 💕.

Este mirador no era tan alto pero lo suficiente como para tener una vista 360° del valle. Me sorprendí de lo pequeño que era este lugar: con solo unas cuadras a la redonda, se podían ver los límites del pueblo. Y por sobre todo, lo verde y brillante que se veía. Toda esta zona, llamada Valle Fértil, concentra los mejores campos para cultivar olivos y frutales. Y es sorprendente que esté rodeado prácticamente de un desierto reseco 💕.

--- At the top of this viewpoint there was a Christ on a cross, like Christ the Redeemer but much more humble (😅). Probably the tallest construction in the valley, watching everything from there. During the day, its bright colors can be seen, but at dusk it is illuminated by a large number of reflectors. So much so that at night the entire town is dark and only this Christ can be seen from above. When I first arrived it was very useful to me, since it was right on the corner of my hostel 😅.

En la cima de este mirador había un Cristo en una cruz, como el Cristo Redentor pero mucho más humilde (😅). Probablemente la construcción más alta del valle, vigilando todo desde ahí. De día, pueden verse sus colores brillantes, pero al atardecer lo ilumina una gran cantidad de reflectores. Tanto, que a la noche todo el pueblo queda oscuro y solo se ve este Cristo desde lo alto. Cuando recién llegué me sirvió bastante, ya que justo estaba en la esquina de mi hospedaje 😅.

--- From that viewpoint you could also see another of the tall buildings in this area: the Valle Fértil hotel, surely the highest-level accommodation here. I think that this town is used as a resting point towards other more tourist destinations, but it is still prepared to receive visitors. It has some other smaller accommodations, cabins and rental houses and also two hostels. Although it is a remote town, visiting it has its charm ❣️.

Desde ese mirador también se podía observar otra de las construcciones en altura de esta zona: el hotel Valle Fértil, seguramente el hospedaje de más "nivel" por acá. Pienso que este pueblo es usado como punto de descanso hacia otros destinos más turísticos, pero igual esta preparado para recibir visitantes. Cuenta con algunos otros alojamientos más pequeños, cabañas y casas de alquiler y también dos hostels. Aunque es un pueblo alejado, visitarlo tiene su encanto ❣️.

--- Going alone to visit this little town also helped me relax a little after a whole month of work at the city hostel. During those days we had dozens of visitors passing through and although it was a great experience to socialize with everyone, I was already forgetting that I quite like the tranquility. In the hostel I booked in San Agustín I was the only guest, so I was able to get a break from the people and from having to share everything, everything. So if relaxing is what you like, this place is definitely for that ❤️.

Ir sola a visitar este pueblito también me sirvió para relajarme un poco después de todo el mes de trabajo en el hostel de la ciudad. Durante esos días tuvimos decenas de visitantes de paso y aunque fue una experiencia genial sociabilizar con todos, ya me estaba olvidando de que me gusta bastante la tranquilidad. En el hostel que reservé en San Agustín era la única huésped, así que pude descansar bastante de la gente y de tener que compartir todo, todo. Así que si descansar es lo que te gusta, este lugar es definitivamente para eso ❤️.
