Imarhan - Tindjatan

Imarhan, a five-piece band, will bring us a bit of desert sand in #newtunes. A new name to me, with roots deep in the Tuareg landscape, they are powered by blues and rock influences and tell stories of the African continent. "Those I care about" (that's the translation of Imarhan) started playing in 2008. Although Imarhan's music is based on tradition, their songs are modern. Rock, pop, blues, and psychedelia meet traditional rhythms and sounds.

Shamir - Caught Up

Shamir is a Philadelphia-based composer and producer. This song is from the new self-released album 'Heterosexuality'. Another in a collection of lo-fi experiments, underpinned by industrial noise, drum machines, and synthesizers, sometimes brilliant, sometimes bizarre, but never insensitive to all forms of oppression.

The Fearless Flyers - Three Basses

The Fearless Flyers are a quartet of groove virtuosos, and in this song, they all play bass guitars, backed by a drummer. Most of the band is also part of the funk band Vulfpeck. In fact, in this song, two guitarists and another bassist show off their bass skills. And of course, they compete with each other :)

Thee Melomen - Turn The Page

Garage rock’n’roll quartet Thee Melomen from Zagreb, Croatia, has turned a new page. On that occasion, they gathered in a new line-up and recorded the EP 'Turn The Page'. I put them here because I’ve been following the band for a few years, I’ve watched them live several times and even recorded a few of their concerts.

Jon Spencer & the HITmakers - JUNK MAN

Jon Spencer and his new band The Hitmakers have announced the release of a new album called 'Spencer Gets It Lit'. I discovered Jon Spenser and the Bluesbreakers and was fascinated by him two decades ago. I even have four CDs.
I watched him live with this new band three years ago and recorded one piece. He's still great, but maybe lost a bit of his spirit. Well, anyway, you be the judge.

Frank Turner - The Resurrectionists

Punk rock troubadour Frank Turner presents the latest studio release 'FTHC' and returns to his roots. Before his release, Turner revealed that he "could surprise some listeners with a different sound" and that he hoped that he would "find himself again, that is, his role in the world as a musician". OK, Frank, let's go.

Cult Of Luna - The Long Road North

Cult of Luna, Swedish metal band, vehemently deviate from the traditional song structure and find their place in dynamic, slowly evolving sounds. The band's industrial, post-apocalyptic, sludgier vibes paints a spectre of the ghost of a nightmarish northern landscape that pushes the listener to the brink of despair with its gunslinging vocals if only to elevate it again. Recommended for fans of the genre.

Chelsea Carmichael - The Healer

Chelsea is a new name for me. She is a saxophonist and comes from the new British jazz scene, the one that boldly combines jazz with other genres, from rock to reggae, electronica to traditional music. The arrangements illustrate the rhythmic and danceable nature of the music as well as its distance from the mainstream. And Chelsea is the new heroine of this tune with her recently released album 'The River Doesn't Like Stranglers'. Very tuneful, rhythmic, and listenable. Highly recommended!
