English version

The star ingredient in today’s recipe is a very popular fruit: the banana, which is perfect for breakfast because it’s rich in potassium—ideal for starting your morning with energy. That’s why I decided to make some banana arepas, and I also added brown sugar to give them a mild, pleasant sweetness. I also incorporated wheat flour to make the dough softer.

Instructions:

After peeling the banana, I cut it into pieces, put it in the blender with two cups of water, and blended it until the mixture was smooth.

Then I transferred it to a bowl, added a pinch of salt and the cornmeal, and kneaded it thoroughly. Next, I grated the brown sugar into the mixture and continued kneading until it had a uniform, pleasant sweet flavor. This step is completed by adding the two tablespoons of wheat flour to the mixture.

Next, I set up a griddle and brushed the surface with oil. I had enough batter for four medium-sized arepas, which I placed on the very hot griddle. I kept an eye on them until they were cooked to my liking on both sides. They were ready in twenty minutes.

I spread butter on the arepas and filled them with ham and cheese. This combination of ingredients was spectacular; the family was delighted with this breakfast. Although this recipe seems like a variation of the plantain arepa, the result is different—the flavor of the banana with the brown sugar is more delightful.
