Sometimes I just feel like making something at home that tastes like street food but is easy to make. Especially when there are hot and crispy samosas with sweet and sour tamarind chutney on the side. It makes everything taste even better.
Today I want to share an easy and delicious Chana Chaat recipe with you. The chickpeas become very soft and full of flavor. The thick and spicy gravy makes this chaat even more tasty. It tastes amazing with samosas.
If you like homemade chaat then you should definitely try this recipe. It is very easy to make and the taste is really delicious.
First of all there is one important thing to remember when preparing the chickpeas. If you want to cook them in the morning then soak them in water the night before.
Soaking the chickpeas overnight helps them cook faster the next day. It also helps reduce the gas that chickpeas can sometimes cause.
In the morning when you are ready to cook the chickpeas drain the water in which they were soaked. Wash the chickpeas with fresh water and then put them in a pressure cooker.
Add fresh water and a little salt. Close the pressure cooker and cook the chickpeas until they become completely soft and tender.

While the chickpeas are cooking we can prepare a simple and tasty tempering for them.
If you are using one kilogram of chickpeas then use two medium sized onions. If you are using half a kilogram of chickpeas then one onion is enough.
Finely chop the onion. Heat some oil in a pan and add the chopped onion. Fry the onion until it becomes soft and light golden.
Now add one tablespoon of garlic and fry it together wi
th the onion. Cook it for a little while until the garlic becomes fragrant.
Now it is time to add the spices. Add some turmeric powder salt chaat masala and mixed spice. Mix everything well and fry the spices with the onion and garlic for a few minutes.
Frying the spices for a little while makes their flavor much better.
Once the tempering is ready add it to the cooked chickpeas. Mix everything well so that the onion garlic and spices are mixed properly with the chickpeas.
Now let the chickpeas cook again on low heat for a little while. This will allow all the flavors to mix together.
As the chickpeas cook they will become even softer and more flavorful. The water will also become a little thick. This thick and flavorful gravy makes the chana chaat really delicious.
You can serve this tasty chana chaat with hot and crispy samosas. The combination of chickpeas and samosas tastes amazing. You can serve it as an evening snack with tea or make it when you have guests at home.
There is one more thing that makes this chana chaat even more delicious and that is tamarind chutney.
In my previous blog I shared an easy recipe for tamarind chutney. I actually made that chutney for this chana chaat. If you have that chutney then definitely serve it with the chana chaat.
The sweet and sour taste of tamarind chutney goes really well with the spicy chickpeas. When you add the chutney with the chickpeas and samosas the taste becomes even better.
You can also sprinkle a little extra chaat masala on top when serving.
Serve the soft and spicy chickpeas with hot samosas and tamarind chutney. It is a simple snack but it tastes so good.
I hope you will try this easy Chana Chaat recipe at home. The ingredients are simple and the recipe is very easy to follow. The chickpeas become soft and flavorful and the thick gravy makes them even more delicious.
