Greetings all!

I have a whole three days off and it has been awesome because I got to write on Fledgling for a change. I loved it!

Anyway, please enjoy the final update of Bolx's time. I hope you all enjoy it!

Bolx dropped the mug he was holding. It shattered at his feet, spilling its contents at his feet. Trakus held a hand out as if wanting the giant to remain sitting.

“She has had a significantly different life to the one we knew. She has never come into contact with us.”

His heart was in his throat and nausea threatened to empty his stomach.
“The Dekai that took her five years ago was Edzeeker.”

A bolt of electricity went through Bolx and the colour he had lost earlier suddenly came rushing back.

“It looks like she was returned a year ago, but for some reason, the humans still continue to wage war with us and our allies.”

Bolx brought the palms of his hands together and rested his face against them. He needed to focus. This was vital information.

“No one here knows what is to come and they are fighting a war no one understands. You, your wife, and your child were killed when a colony was attacked. Your family is in shambles and Saasha is very close to stepping into battle herself. We need to put a stop to this senseless war and get all sides to realise what is really going on.”

An idea was forming in his head. He was surprised that he could think straight considering that just a few days ago he was told his son was dead and his wife had banished him from their time.

“Where is this Saita now?”

“If rumours are to be believed, she is with her mother, but I have yet to see her. However, General, there is something you need to know about what Edzeeker did to this girl.”

Everyone else looked uncomfortable and excused themselves with tasks so they wouldn’t have to hear this story again. Trakus delved into detail about this timeline’s Kaiden had been through. Horror didn’t even begin to describe what Bolx felt. He hadn’t liked Edzeeker before this, but he had never seen him as a monster. What he had done to Kaiden as a child was unforgivable, but what he had done to her as a teen was enough to make the Saith’s hair turn white.

“Enough, I can’t listen to this anymore.” He stopped Trakus.

Trakus sat down and waited for Bolx to say something. However, the General was reeling with all the new information. He desperately wanted to go to Kaiden’s side, but he knew that she would have no idea who he was or what they had shared. He shook his head. No, this wasn’t Kaiden, this girl was called Saita, with a devastating past.

“Okay.” Bolx said as he lowered his hands, “The first thing we need to do is to stop the war between the Saith and humans. How do we do that?”

“Get the mad human king off his throne.”

“Karesh?”

Trakus nodded his head.

“He’s under the impression that his daughter was taken by the Kai?”

Again, the Saith before him nodded his head.

“But he knows that she is back. Why continue with the fight? Madness.”

“This timeline seems to be more affected by madness rather than the Wasting Disease. This influence is likely working on the king’s mind.”

Bolx thought a little more and then said softly, “The daughter needs to face him, but to try and get them to meet will be difficult. How do we even organise this?”

“The king is taking Saith slaves to work on what he refers to as a hospital planet.”

As Trakus spoke, an idea was starting to form in Bolx’s head. He was, after all, the General of the Royal Guard, despite knowing others were more qualified than he was. He needed to meet her and make her understand what was coming, but his feelings wrapped around his belly, and he could feel tears gathering in his eyes again.

“I need to think about this. Do we have a base of operations?”

Trakus nodded his head.

“Let’s get everyone together. I need time to figure out how we can cause the humans to make peace with the Saith and for us to somehow reintegrate ourselves.”

“General, you need rest. I only just managed to keep you alive. I need to know that you’re not going to do anything stupid as we travel.”

The thought of meeting this Saita was enough for Bolx to not want to destroy himself. It was selfish, he knew it, but he needed to fixate on something, anything.

“Show me where I can sleep.” Was all he said.

He had slept on and off for several days, unable to fall asleep without Kaiden next to him, but too depressed to get out of bed. However, but the time they reached their base of operations, he had buried his pain as deep as he could. He had to be the General of the Royal Guard now. His remaining people needed that.

It had taken a few weeks of planning and placing members throughout the ranks of the Saith army before their plan was ready to go into motion. He was sure he could convince Saita to do what she had to. He had been so sure of his plan. He was sure that Saita had been sheltered by her cousin who was married to a Saith. His plan had gone off without a hitch until he saw Saita.

His legs had nearly collapsed under him. She was a little younger, not by much, but she carried a great weight on her shoulders. Her scars were different, and her eyes were mismatched, but it was Kaiden, who was refusing to look at him as he stared at her. Trakus had nudged him hard in the ribs to get him to approach her.
The only thing he was able to say was, “It has been a long time.”

However, when she looked at him there was no recognition of who he was. The pain was overwhelming, but he squashed it, continuing to grin at her. Even when she said, “I have no memory from the last four years, so I am afraid that I do not know who you are.”

The comment had cut him deeply, but he continued, “Oh. The name my parents gave me is Bolx, but everyone tends to call me by my father’s name because we look so alike.”

There was still no recognition, and he was forced to realise that this wasn’t Kaiden. This was Saita and she was far more different than the human he had known. Despite that, once they were in the underground compound, he remained close to her. He heard her screaming in her sleep when she did sleep. He watched her training and tried to separate what he was feeling and what he needed to do. This was the most painful thing he needed to do when he all wanted to do was drag her into his arms and tell her that everything was going to be okay.

“Are you still awake?”

Saita collapsed over the bed in the dark. Bolx sat up and wiped his eyes dry. He had been crying for a while. He was then assaulted by the smell of a wet dog.
“Why do you smell like that?” he asked as he wrinkled his nose.

“Black-Beast, Silver-Wind, and I went for a swim. They shook themselves dry after I got dressed. I guess the smell stuck. Is it that bad?” She sniffed at herself.

“Must just be my heightened sense of smell.” He said as he pulled her into his arms.

He pressed her tightly to him, terrified that he would lose her too. If that happened, there would be no force across time and space that would keep him alive. Saita, whether knowing what was on his mind or not, sat over his lap and pressed him to her chest, as she set her chin on top of his head.

“I won’t leave you.” She whispered softly, “You’d have to leave first.”

“Don’t even put that energy out into the universe.” He said.

She said nothing further and gave him the comfort he needed until he was ready to let her go. She smiled at him, “I’m sorry that I have been so busy with my friends. Would you like to join us tomorrow? I’d love to introduce you to them.”
“I would like to meet them.”

That brings the end to Bolx's time. There are about 80 pages left of the story, so loads to still today.
