A Satisfying SGD 7 Mutton Briyani Lunch at Angel Foods Indian Cuisine
On weekends, I like to have a slightly different dining experience compared to my usual routine during the weekdays. It doesn't necessarily have to be something fancy or expensive. Sometimes, all I need is to visit another neighborhood, explore a hawker center, and find a good meal that feels like a little reward for the week.
Yesterday, I went to the Upper Boon Keng area for a nice and pleasant lunch at Boon Keng Ville Eating House. I've been here before, and one of the stalls that keeps giving me a reason to return is Angel Foods Indian Cuisine.
They are still quite new since they only opened a few months ago, but I already find their food impressive. They serve fresh and delicious Indian food, and what makes the stall even better for me is their very reasonable pricing.
For my lunch, I ordered their Mutton Briyani for only SGD 7.00!
For anyone who isn't familiar with food prices here in Singapore, I would say that SGD 7.00 for a mutton briyani like this is really good value for money. Mutton isn't exactly the cheapest meat, and preparing it properly also takes some effort because you definitely don't want to end up with tough and chewy pieces of meat.
Thankfully, that wasn't a problem here at all.
The mutton was very tender and nicely cooked. It absorbed plenty of the curry, making every piece flavorful and satisfying. I think they have already mastered the preparation of this dish because the texture of the meat was just right.
Of course, the briyani rice itself was also one of the highlights. It was savory, fragrant, and flavorful enough that I could happily eat it on its own. But mixing it together with some of the curry made it even better. The curry added richness and a bit of heat that slowly built up as I continued eating.
And that's where the side dishes became very useful LOL.
The meal came with a hard-boiled egg, cucumber salad, and apalam. Whenever the curry started feeling a little too spicy for me, I simply took a few bites of the cucumber salad. Its fresh and slightly tangy character immediately refreshed my palate before I went back for another spoonful of briyani and curry.
I also enjoyed breaking pieces of the crispy apalam and eating them together with the rice. That crunchy texture added another layer to an already satisfying plate of food.
This is exactly why I keep coming back to Angel Foods Indian Cuisine. Their pricing feels fair and realistic, and more importantly, they provide genuine value through the quality and portion of the food they serve. Maybe their affordable prices are helping them attract customers while they're still new, but honestly, I hope they stay this way for a long time.
And even if they eventually increase their prices a little, I'll probably still come back whenever I need to fix my Indian food cravings LOL.
Overall, it was a simple but incredibly satisfying weekend lunch. Tender mutton, flavorful briyani rice, rich curry, refreshing cucumber salad, crispy apalam, and a boiled egg—all for SGD 7.00.
I left Boon Keng Ville Eating House with a full stomach and a very happy mood.
