Mycelial Caking and Growth
In awe of a new four weeks of blogging, I have adjusted the formatting slightly of these posts to make them easier on the eye.
If you are new, welcome. You can begin the wonderful journey along mushroom research, growth, and use, here: @trezzahn/psychoactive-research
You can find tomorrow's work here: @trezzahn/brown-rice-flour-and-rye-grain-substrate-a-scientific-examination-of-its-utilization-as-a-medium-for-mycelial-growth-a ...
Myself (https://hivebuzz.me/@trezzahn) , well, I blog daily (https://actifit.io/trezzahn , with my photography reports here, https://actifit.io/activity/trezzahn#), as well as post and stay active on both this forum, and another, #StemGeeks.
I aim to help others stay motivated. To better their mental, and physical health, through means of individualistic actions seperate from that of societal norm and based entirely on personal desire for their life of true happiness.
Please do enjoy today, with more content tomorrow. I know those following are :)
Preparation, Mycelial Inoculation, and Initial Colonization – An Introduction
This section of blogging introduces mycelial colonization via utilization of a medium substrate. We will be examining two. Rye Grain, first, and the latter which will be more thoroughly examined, BRF; or otherwise known – Brown Rice Flour Tek.
An Introduction to Caking – BRF Method or the Rye Grain Substrate Method Tek
Continued transferring is the key to removing contaminant from an agar culture of psilocybin, and as so, it is common practice to complete many of these transfers and create multiple dishes for the purpose of storage, and continued decontamination, ensuring easy injection into a substrate for inoculation.
To do so, it is suggested that one acquires both 1mL injection syringes and 10mL injection syringes, simply serving the purpose of allowing inoculation of both large and smaller substrate containments.
If the previous tek blogs have been followed, one should have already acquired these or at least have heard of these.
The Tek
From mason jars to plastic lined bins; there are many ways one can decide on how to fruit eventually caked mycelium and grow mushrooms, but that will be explained in a later part.
One should now decide and seek to see if they can acquire the substrate material,
It is suggested that one decides if they wish to grow a large amount, or a smaller harvest - acquire a large dark, or small, plastic bin of which the lid can be lifted, and circulation holes drilled in the side, comparable to the size of the grow.
Mason jars [Ball Brand] or another name-brand strengthened glass sealed air mason wide-mouth jar will suffice.
Preparation - Heat-Sterilizing the Jars
To begin, with the inoculation including a dark plastic bin and mason jars in a dark place, the initial substrate must be prepared, and the containment, sterilized.
Initially, place the mason jars sideways, top off so that the water fills ¾ the height of the jar and fully submerges the lids in a medium-large sealable pot.
Bring the pot to a slow boil for 10 minutes then cool in the pot and turn upside down to dry on a sterile surface for use following.
Rye Grain Substrate Method
*The direct methodology and creation of this substrate will be examined this week in StemGeeks, but for now, we will discuss its’ utilization, uses, differences to BRF, and other important information related.
This method incorporates the usage of the following ingredients and should be acquired before beginning tomorrows tek.
- Fresh Organic Fall Rye Grain – preferably vacuum-pack sealed > Up to 1000g
BRF (Brown Rice Flour Substrate) Method
*The direct methodology and creation of this substrate will be examined this week in StemGeeks, but for now, we will discuss its’ utilization, uses, differences to Rye Grain, and other important information related.
This method incorporates the usage of the following ingredients and should be acquired before beginning tomorrows tek.
Vermiculite – preferably without additives > Up to 5L can suffice for small, 10L for large
Brown Rice Flour – preferably Organic > Up to 750g
Molecular Gypsum - as an additive ( : Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate) > Up to 500g
Examined following this, we will look at how to prepare these substrate in StemGeeks, and how to pressure cook safely, utilize our spore dishes that are now colonized, and eventually, colonize our own jars!
Congratulations on finishing this weeks reading! Please do catch up with with links below if you have the time; you won't be disappointed. Always feel free to send a friendly comment my way; constructive criticiam is good and the feedback I've been getting thus far is great!
