Welcome
In awe of a new four weeks of blogging, I have adjusted the formatting slightly of these posts to make them easier on the eye.
If you are new, welcome. You can begin the wonderful journey along mushroom research, growth, and use, here: @trezzahn/psychoactive-research
You can find yesterday's HypnoChain posting here: https://hypnochain.com/hive-163521/@trezzahn/brown-rice-flour-and-rye-grain-substrate-a-scientific-examination-of-its-utilization-as-a-medium-for-mycelial-growth-a ...
Myself (https://hivebuzz.me/@trezzahn) , well, I blog daily (https://actifit.io/trezzahn , with my photography reports here, https://actifit.io/activity/trezzahn#), as well as post and stay active on both this forum, and another, #HypnoChain.
I aim to help others stay motivated. To better their mental, and physical health, through means of individualistic actions seperate from that of societal norm and based entirely on personal desire for their life of true happiness.
Please do enjoy today, with yesterdays content here ( ) . Thanks again everyone, and sorry for the repeat intro from yesterday!
Substrates, Formation, and Grip - An Introduction to What Holds Everything Together
Prep, Continuation:
As explained prior, 18-24hrs prior to sterilizing, place the mason jars sideways, top off so that the water fills ¾ the height of the jar and fully submerges the lids.
Bring to a slow boil for 10 minutes then cool in the pot and turn upside down to dry on a sterile surface for following use.
Rye Grain – Substrate:
For this tek, their is a short method prior to sterilization, and many people do not want to complete this, are unable to/do not know how, or do not have a pressure cooker and want to try their hands another way - outlined below -, ultimately, though, process ends with progress so it is sometimes used opposed to the latter teks even though it may take longer.
Please see below instructions for pre-soaking, dunking, soaking, and drying:
Fill the mason jars approximately halfway to the point of breathability, approximately ¾ the totality of the contents, with the vacuum sealed or other loosely acquired rye grain.
These will expand to almost twice their size when submerged in water.
Pour the measured amount of rye grain to be used through a thin strainer to remove any loose and initial dirt.
Pour these cleaned up grains into a loose metal netting and strain water through such that all the grains become soaked and submerged, dumping each round of grains in the strainer after 30 seconds of soaking into another bowl.
-Pour these rinsed grains into a pot of stove-warmed water, along with 1teaspoon of gypsum per 5 jars to be inoculated, and place in a cool dark place for 12-24 hours to let the grains absorb water and for any bad or cracked grains to float to the surface/reveal.
After 12-24 hours have passed, cook these now soaked grains on low for 10-15 minutes, and let cool stove-top for 15 minutes on the same burner. Transfer to a cool burner after.
Let cool in the pot for 1 hour, then scoop with a strainer the grains out and onto a flat drying pan with parchment paper over, and lay parchment paper atop after evenly spreading the grains throughout. Pull out any popped, black or dark grains as well as any that seem "off".
Let dry for 2-4 hours, or until the grains are dry on the outside, swelled, but damp to the feel when pressured inside.
BRF Method – Brown Rice Flour-Vermiculite Substrate:
- In a mixing bowl, per 16oz (4 cup) mason jar or according to relevant calculated size, add:
➢ 230mL warm water,
➢ 1 cup Vermiculite, additional added at top to act as a barrier if desired,
➢ ½ cup Brown Rice Flour,
➢ ¼ teaspoon gypsum and mix, with gloves, to uniform, sandy, texture.
- Seal each jar after carefully wiping the edges with 99% alcohol to ensure contamination minimal, to null.
Sterilization
Following preparation of the substrate used, described above, the containments need now be sterilized in a pressure cooker, or heat-sterilized in a closed-top pot.
For the pot, place the containment inner and bring the pot to a slow boil for 90 minutes for the BRF method.
For the pressure cooker, and latter rye grain method (and/or BRF method), pressurize following substrate containment at 15 psi for 1 hour.
After, let the jars cool for 2 hours in the pot/cooker and 1 hour outside before touching the jars -with gloves and a towel- to be placed on a sterile surface for inoculation.
To be examined next week, we take a look at inoculation, and creation of a SGFC (Shotgun-Fruiting Chamber)! Sounds fun, right?
Congratulations on finishing this weeks reading! Please do catch up with with links below if you have the time; you won't be disappointed. Always feel free to send a friendly comment my way; constructive criticiam is good and the feedback I've been getting thus far is great!
