Verdades incómodas que afrontar / Inconvenient truths to face
Somos nuestro peor enemigo
@parauri.

Friend @emiliorios in the
@holos-lotus community has made an invitation to participate in the idea that serves as the title for this post. We all have truths that are uncomfortable and that is why some choose to simply ignore them or even justify them. In life, it is much easier to make excuses than to accuse oneself. But doing so deeply affects the way we react to adverse situations and causes damage to our emotional and mental health.
In the invitation to this initiative, @emiliorios raised several situations that we could face, and to which, according to our reaction, we could show if we are accepting those uncomfortable truths or if we still have to work on those points. Let's see what they are. As I mention them, I will also give my point of view.
That bad things don't just happen to us.
It is true that when we go through one problem after another we might feel that we are the worst, that we are "salty", but this is not so. It would be enough to talk to people close to us to realize that we are all experiencing many difficulties.
I always remember a presentation by a friend who said at the beginning: "Raise your hand if you don't have any problems". Obviously, no one did, because although it is true that we may feel at some point very overwhelmed by the many difficulties we suffer, this does not mean that we are the only person who suffers from them. It is very important to accept this truth in order to avoid falling into a negative attitude towards ourselves, even to the point of thinking that we are useless.
We are our own worst enemy
I must admit that this is a truth that is not difficult for me to accept because I suffer from anxiety. There are many occasions when I feel that my mind tries to ruin me, even leading me to think of situations that are not realistic at all. This affects my ability to relate to other people, believing that they will reject me or believing that I am not worthy of their friendship, but then it happens that when I take that first step and treat them, they become great friends.
So, instead of staying with the opinion we have of ourselves, the best thing to do is to try to see ourselves as others see us, especially if they are people who love us.
That we run away when we are hurt or in pain
Nobody wants to suffer, cry, or anything like that, but it is necessary to admit that running away at the first opportunity is not the best option. Why is that? To understand it, we can compare ourselves to a student who never takes a test. It would never be possible to know his intellectual capacity, much less his deficiencies. In that case, he could not be given the help he needs.
If we do not face difficult situations, we will not be able to improve, nor will we know what we are made of. Of course, the idea is not to suffer for the sake of it. It is necessary to be aware that everything has a limit.
Academic studies do not guarantee success.
In Venezuela, some 20 years ago, there was the custom of thinking that either you had a university degree or you were worthless. But, at the same time, it was very normal to see people who graduated from university doing jobs that did not require such a degree, for example, masonry, painting or transportation drivers.
The point is that we cannot guarantee our success with a piece of paper, no matter how much value is placed on it. The key, as our friend in the initiative puts it, is to work toward our goals, to stay focused on achieving success, whether or not we have a college degree.
Our health does not depend on age
Although many people think so, we must always take care of ourselves, whether we are young or old, otherwise life will take its toll on us sooner or later. As the saying goes: "prevention is better than regret".
This was my participation. I hope that many more can join this necessary and interesting initiative, which has a lot to do with our mental health. I would like to invite @zorajaime and
@parauri to this initiative.
