I remember the first, and hopefully last, time I failed a squat. And I don't just mean failing the rep; I almost hurt myself doing it. I actually made a post about it here. It really tanked my confidence, and since then, I told myself I would slow down and start from scratch.
Safe to say, I'm now back at the top. ;)
After failing my working set at 120/130 kg, I thought it was wise to take a step back and rebuild properly. I started with 100kg, then worked my way back up to 120 kg, 140 kg, and now my working weight is 150 kg, as seen in the video.
Even better, I'm getting good depth, which is something I always prioritise because mobility matters to me.
For now, I'm going to stick with 150kg until I can comfortably hit 6 reps. I'm currently maxing out at 4, and once I can consistently get those 6 reps with good form, I'll add another 10 kg.
You're probably wondering why I'm telling you all this.
Well, the lesson is simple: you only truly fail when you stop.
As long as you keep showing up and keep doing the work, you haven't really failed. You just paused, reassessed, and started again.
Failure isn't final.
Well, thank you for coming to my TED Talk. Till next time.
God bless. 🙏
