Overhead Tricep Extensions: A Classic That Still Deserves Its Flowers 💪
I know I’ve said it a number of times that the overhead tricep pushdown is the GOAT of tricep training, but I still think the classic overhead tricep extension deserves a shout too.
It’s part of my Saturday routine, and while I’ll probably be switching things up soon, I still did it yesterday. I used a lighter weight, but it felt just as great. It’s a wonderful exercise for targeting the triceps, especially the long head, when you want to train them in a stretched position.
There are several variations, from dumbbells to barbells, but I personally prefer the cable version. It doesn’t require much setup, and somehow, it feels easier on my elbows compared to using dumbbells.
The cable version in my video uses a rope attachment on a medium cable pulley, allowing you to maintain tension throughout the range of motion. I’d also recommend a staggered stance for better balance and stability, especially when working with heavier weights.
One important thing, though: control the weight throughout every rep. Don’t rush through the movement or let the weight do all the work. Keep the tension on your triceps, focus on getting a good stretch, and squeeze through the extension. Your triceps will thank you for it.
I highly recommend giving this exercise a try if you haven’t already.
Well, thank you for reading. I hope you try it out. Till next time, God bless.
