Lakowa Street, after the renovation of small architecture and some of the houses, invites you to take a walk. Formerly, the street was divided by smaller drainage canals, and a wide canal ran along it. Since 1883 there was a horse streetcar connecting the Lower Town with the Highland Gate, replaced after 13 years by an electric streetcar. At the end of the street there was functioning streetcar depot until 1999.
On the left side of the street you can see an interesting building standing on a curve, which is the former seat of the Gdañsk Tobacco Monopoly, and now it is the headquarters of the Polish clothing company LPP exporting its products to many countries. (LPP owns such brands as Cropp, Sinsay, House, Mohito, Reserved and employs 25 thousand workers). I wrote about a clothing company but I really like these stores and I couldn't believe it when I found out that they are Polish.
I will write something more about today. Today we went with children from our school to the gallery in Przymorze to promote reading. We wore colourful T-shirts with inscriptions like: "He who reads, lives twice" and we sat in the hall with our books. It wouldn't have been strange if it weren't for our T-shirts and the gathering of dozens of people reading next to each other.
Children from our school like reading very much, although there are some exceptions. There is a public library in the school hall, which is used by children every day.
