In a trial, a lawyer calls a very sharp-tongued man to testify. Trying to trick the man into lowering his defenses, and cooperating with the testimony, he says:
“You seem to me to be a very honest person and that you will speak the truth.”
To which the man looks at him and replies:
“Thank you for the compliment. If it weren't for the fact that I'm under oath, I would return the same compliment.”
