Today is October 1st—that day of the month that arrives with British punctuality to remind us of outstanding bills, utility payments, and a lineup of responsibilities waiting to be handled. One would love to welcome the new month with coffee, peace of mind, and a pleasant breeze, but reality usually says: "First, pay this, that, and the other thing." 😅
One of my pending tasks was paying a utility bill. I still haven't managed to set up online payments for everything, so I had to handle the errand the traditional way: leave the house, brave the streets, and hope the weather would show a little mercy.
And, of course, we are right in the middle of the rainy season. 🌦️
I waited for the #rain to let up a bit, and seeing that the sky seemed to be granting a brief reprieve, I decided to head out. My plan was simple: pay the bill, get back quickly, and avoid ending up like a drowned rat.
As often happens with simple plans, something went wrong.
I managed to pay the bill, but on the way back, I got caught in one of those storms that make any umbrella feel completely useless. The rain was accompanied by strong crosswinds—the kind that don't just fall from above but seem to have a personal vendetta against me.
The raindrops hit the ground with such force that they bounced up past my knees. That was the moment I realized I wasn't just walking in the rain anymore; I was taking part in a free "extreme tropical tourism" experience. 🌧️😂
Luckily, I made it home. I dried off, changed my clothes, and made some hot lemonade to take with a cold-relief pill. Now, all that’s left is to hope my body doesn't make me pay the price for getting so soaked—though I find that unlikely, given that in recent years I catch a cold from things as simple as getting caught in the night air (or serenado, as we call it around here).
Whenever I catch a cold from heavy rain, a sudden temperature drop, or one of those unexpectedly chilly afternoons, I usually have a pretty rough time of it. That’s why I’m trying to warm up and take care of my throat before the cold decides to move in—suitcases, rental contract, and all.
But it wasn't all bad news. Despite the storm, we still have electricity and an internet connection. Under these circumstances, that almost counts as a cosmic alignment. ⚡🌐
So, this is also a great time to keep up with another first-of-the-month tradition: performing a Power Up on my #hive account. In other words, converting some of my rewards into more voting power on the blockchain and continuing to strengthen my stake.
After dealing with bills, rain, wind, and the threat of sneezes, there is at least the satisfaction of making a little more progress on this digital journey. 💪

Octubre comienza entre pagos, lluvia y un nuevo Power Up 🌧️⚡
Hoy es 1 de octubre, ese día del mes que llega con puntualidad británica para recordarnos que hay cuentas pendientes, servicios por pagar y varias responsabilidades esperando turno. Uno quisiera recibir el nuevo mes con café, tranquilidad y una brisa agradable, pero la realidad suele decir: “Primero paga esto, aquello y lo otro”. 😅
Entre mis pendientes estaba pagar una cuenta de servicio. Todavía no he logrado configurar todos esos pagos en línea desde una página web, así que me tocó hacer la diligencia de la manera tradicional: salir de casa, enfrentar la calle y confiar en que el clima tuviera un poco de consideración.
Y claro, estamos en plena temporada de lluvias. 🌦️
Esperé a que la lluvia se calmara un poco y, al ver que el cielo parecía darnos una pequeña tregua, decidí salir. Mi plan era sencillo: pagar la cuenta, regresar rápidamente y evitar convertirme en un pollo remojado.
Como suele ocurrir con los planes sencillos, algo salió mal.
Logré pagar el servicio que tenía pendiente, pero en el camino me cayó encima una tormenta de esas que hacen que cualquier paraguas se sienta completamente inútil. La lluvia venía acompañada de fuertes vientos cruzados, de esos que no caen desde arriba, sino que parecen tener una misión personal contra uno.
Las gotas de esta #lluvia golpeaban el suelo con tanta fuerza que rebotaban por encima de las rodillas. En ese momento comprendí que ya no estaba caminando bajo la lluvia: estaba participando gratuitamente en una experiencia de 'turismo tropical extremo'. 🌧️😂
Por suerte, pude regresar a casa. Me sequé, me cambié de ropa y preparé una limonada caliente para tomar una pastilla antigripal. Ahora solo queda esperar que el cuerpo no decida pasarme factura por haberme mojado tanto, aunque eso lo veo difícil, ya que en años recientes me resfrío incluso por cosas tan simples como haberme "serenado," que es, como decimos por estos lados, a sencillamente sentir el frío de la noche.
Cada vez que me resfrío por una lluvia fuerte, un cambio repentino de temperatura, o una de esas tardes frías inesperadas, suelo pasarla bastante mal. Por eso estoy tratando de entrar en calor y cuidar la garganta antes de que el resfriado quiera instalarse con maletas y contrato de alquiler.
Pero no todo fue pérdida. A pesar de la tormenta, todavía tenemos servicio eléctrico y conexión a Internet. Eso, en estas circunstancias, casi cuenta como una conjunción cósmica. ⚡🌐
Así que este también es un buen momento para cumplir con otra tradición del primer día del mes: hacer el Power Up de mi cuenta en Hive. Es decir, convertir parte de mis recompensas en más poder de voto dentro de la blockchain y seguir fortaleciendo mi estaca.
Después de enfrentar pagos, lluvia, viento y posibles estornudos, al menos queda la satisfacción de avanzar un poco más en este camino digital. 💪
