Good evening, blog friends! Here I am again to join in the Wednesday walk. Honestly, I didn't think I’d be walking today, given the atrocious heat spikes and intense heatwaves we've been having—days when it's better to stay indoors. But alas, I had to go out to run some errands in Serravalle. Since I had a long wait for the tram, I decided to take a stroll while waiting, partly to avoid standing still in the heat at the bus stop. I wasn't in the old part of Serravalle—the area with the fortress and castle—but rather in the newer section along the road connecting Serravalle to Montecatini. I started my walk in an area with various homes and businesses—a simple, quiet, and essentially residential spot featuring a mix of apartment buildings and small houses—before heading up toward the greener areas that Serravalle is known for. I passed several construction sites; the area is clearly expanding, as there are so many businesses and shops here. I just hope they don't open another supermarket; it would be nice if they opened a senior center or something similar, or perhaps a park, because the natural landscape surrounding the road is currently a chaotic mess and has been left to neglect.

Sinceramente, no pensaba salir a caminar hoy, dado el calor sofocante y las intensas olas de calor que hemos estado sufriendo; días en los que es mejor quedarse en casa. Pero bueno, tuve que salir a hacer unos recados en Serravalle. Como el tranvía tardaba en llegar, decidí dar una vuelta mientras esperaba, en parte para no quedarme quieta bajo el calor en la parada. No estaba en el casco antiguo de Serravalle —la zona de la fortaleza y el castillo—, sino en la parte más nueva, a lo largo de la carretera que conecta Serravalle con Montecatini. Comencé mi caminata por una zona de viviendas y negocios —un lugar sencillo, tranquilo y esencialmente residencial, con una mezcla de edificios de apartamentos y casas pequeñas— antes de dirigirme hacia las zonas más verdes por las que es conocida Serravalle. Pasé por varias obras en construcción; la zona está claramente en expansión, ya que hay muchos negocios y tiendas. Solo espero que no abran otro supermercado; estaría bien que abrieran un centro para mayores o algo parecido, o quizás un parque, porque el entorno natural que rodea la carretera es ahora mismo un caos y está bastante descuidado.

I then continued onward despite the heat, entering a more rural area—as you can see from the photos—filled with fields (some well-tended, others not) and houses in the distance; it’s a lovely area, and fortunately, there are public transport stops all along the road. I took photos of the surroundings, including a shot of a poor gentleman running a fruit stall whom I snapped while he was taking a nap—and I can certainly see why he was sleeping; it’s not easy working under the scorching sun all day. As I walked along at a leisurely pace, the ancient fortress and castle came into view in the distance; it’s a shame they were too far away to reach on foot, as the old town of Serravalle is very charming. In the end, I did manage a walk, though at one point I stopped to wait for a bus, completely exhausted by the heat. Luego continué mi camino a pesar del calor, adentrándome en una zona más rural —como se puede apreciar en las fotos—, repleta de campos (algunos bien cuidados y otros no tanto) y casas a lo lejos; es un lugar encantador y, afortunadamente, hay paradas de transporte público a lo largo de toda la carretera. Saqué fotos del entorno, incluida una de un pobre hombre que atendía un puesto de fruta; lo fotografié justo cuando dormitaba, y desde luego entiendo por qué dormía: no es nada fácil trabajar todo el día bajo un sol abrasador. Mientras caminaba tranquilamente, divisé a lo lejos la antigua fortaleza y el castillo; es una lástima que estuvieran demasiado lejos para llegar a pie, ya que el casco antiguo de Serravalle tiene mucho encanto. Al final sí logré caminar un buen trecho, aunque en un momento dado tuve que detenerme a esperar el autobús, totalmente agotado por el calor.
