Visitando la Universidad Nacional de Lanús (UnLa) / Visiting the National University of Lanús (UnLa)

Una de las ventajas del sistema educativo en Argentina, es la gran cantidad de universidades públicas que existen en Buenos Aires capital y sus adyacencias. Y en días pasados fui a conocer una de ellas.

Luego de dejar de lado el trabajo directo en los medios de comunicación, me dediqué al área docente, y fue en esa nueva etapa donde descubrí no solamente una nueva vocación, sino también capacidades internas que desconocía, como por ejemplo, la pedagogía. Por eso, volver al ambiente universitario, es algo que me recarga de energías y activa buenas vibras dentro de mi.

Esta visita era una tarea pendiente desde hace algunos meses, cuando fui a conocer la sede de la Universidad Nacional de Lomas de Zamora, de la cual me enamoré por ser ese primer reencuentro con el cambio de rumbo que voy haciendo de mi vida profesional en Argentina desde que llegué.

Su entrada, es una caminata por un sendero similar a esos que se ven en las películas, con árboles de lado y lado, y que en primavera de seguro deben verse espléndidamente en flor, pues estando en invierno, yo la vi hermosa (o sería la emoción del momento) y ya luego, los amplios jardines del campus, resultan atractivos para estar en sintonía con lo que significa la universidad en sí.

Una de las cosas que me gustó, fue la presencia de plazas internas, con bancos que simulan espacios propios para clases al aire libre, pues es la primera vez que veo varios en un mismo lugar y la sola idea de poder impartir algunas materias en esos lugares cuando el clima así lo permita, sería excelente para desarrollar aptitudes en los participantes, que no suelen presentarse durante las clases teóricas dentro de un aula cerrada.

Al entrar en el primer edificio, mi primera impresión fue que estaba en una estación del tren, y más allá, me sentí como Harry Potter cuando fue su primer viaje a la escuela de magos, solo que acá no estaba el andén 9 3/4 escondido detrás de una de sus paredes.

Este edificio correspondía al área administrativa y tenía solo algunas aulas, cuyas dimensiones eran enormes, a diferencia de las de la sede donde llegué a impartir clases o inclusive de donde yo estudié. Fue inevitable sentir una emoción al imaginarme dentro de una de ellas, así fuera como estudiante no registrada.

Lamentablemente el día no se prestaba para caminar mucho en las adyacencias, pues al salir de este edificio estaba empezando a llover y solo alcancé a ver de lejos el edificio del cine que está al fondo, por lo que si o si, tengo ya planificada una nueva visita para terminar de recorrer todo el recinto.

One of the advantages of the educational system in Argentina is the large number of public universities in Buenos Aires and its surrounding areas. And a few days ago, I went to visit one of them.

After stepping away from direct work in the media, I turned to teaching, and it was during that new phase that I discovered not only a new calling but also inner strengths I hadn’t known I had—such as a talent for teaching. That’s why returning to the university environment recharges my energy and fills me with positive vibes.

This visit had been on my to-do list for several months, when I went to explore the campus of the National University of Lomas de Zamora—a place I fell in love with because it marked my first encounter with the new direction I’ve been steering my professional life in Argentina since I arrived.

The entrance is a walk along a path similar to those seen in movies, lined with trees on both sides, which in spring must surely look splendid in bloom—though even in winter, I found it beautiful (or perhaps it was just the excitement of the moment). And then, the campus’s spacious gardens are inviting, helping you connect with the very essence of what the university represents.

One of the things I liked was the presence of indoor plazas with benches that create spaces for outdoor classes—this is the first time I’ve seen several of them in one place—and the very idea of being able to teach certain subjects there when the weather permits would be excellent for developing skills in the participants that don’t usually emerge during theoretical classes inside a closed classroom.

Upon entering the first building, my first impression was that I was at a train station, and beyond that, I felt like Harry Potter on his first trip to the school of witchcraft and wizardry—except here, Platform 9 3/4 wasn’t hidden behind one of the walls.

This building housed the administrative offices and had only a few classrooms, which were enormous in size—unlike those at the campus where I used to teach or even where I studied. I couldn’t help but feel a thrill imagining myself inside one of them, even if only as an unregistered student.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t ideal for walking around the surrounding area much, since it started raining as I left the building, and I only managed to catch a glimpse of the movie theater building in the background from a distance. So, no matter what, I’ve already planned another visit to finish exploring the entire campus.
