Hello, dear Holos & Lotus community!
There are mornings that begin almost the same way. We open our eyes, get up, go to the kitchen, prepare something to drink and start thinking about everything we have to do during the day. Some mornings are calm, while on others our minds are already full before we have even finished waking up. A routine can become so familiar that we stop paying attention to many of the small moments that are part of it.
Still, there are days when something as simple as a ray of sunlight coming through a window catches our attention. The light falls across the floor, crosses part of the room and creates shadows that will be gone a few hours later. The next morning the light will come back, although it may fall in a different way. It happens every day and, because of that, we can stop noticing it.
I like to think about mornings that way. Not because every sunrise has to be special or because we should start every day full of enthusiasm. There are ordinary mornings, difficult mornings, mornings when we are tired and others when we feel ready to begin something. They are all part of our lives, and none of them has to be exactly like the one before.
One of the small gifts of morning is that it gives us another chance to be present. Not to change our lives or make big plans, but simply to look a little closer at what is in front of us. Listening to the sounds of the street, feeling the air coming through a window, watching the light move across a room or quietly enjoying a cup of coffee may seem like small things, but they are part of our days too.
We often spend so much time thinking about what we have to do next that we miss what is happening right now. We have breakfast while thinking about work, walk while thinking about a conversation that still needs to happen, or begin one task while worrying about the others waiting for us. That is understandable because responsibilities are always there, but we do not have to rush ahead of the day all the time.
There is also something interesting about the way light can change our view of the same place. A room we know well can look different when the sun enters from another angle. A wall, a table or the floor can show shadows and shapes we had never noticed. The room itself has not changed. What changed was the way we were looking at it.
Maybe something similar happens with us. There are days when the same situation feels heavy, and others when we can see it from another point of view. Circumstances do not always change right away, but the way we approach them can change. Sometimes we only need to rest, clear our heads a little or let a few hours pass before looking again at what is worrying us.
That is why I like those small rituals we repeat without giving them much thought. Opening the curtains, watering a plant, making coffee, sitting for a few minutes near a window or simply watching the day begin. They do not have to become rules or a perfect routine. They can be small spaces that remind us that we are here, living this moment instead of always waiting for the next one.
Every sunrise comes back, but we arrive at it carrying something different. One morning we may have a concern, another a new hope, a recent conversation, a tiredness that has not gone away or just the wish for the day to pass peacefully. That is why one morning is never exactly the same as another, even when we do many of the same things.
I think that is part of the beauty of everyday life. The day begins again and the sunlight comes through the window once more, but there is always some detail we can see in a different way. Something extraordinary does not have to happen for a moment to have value. Sometimes we only need to pay enough attention to notice it.
When that light moves across the floor and the shadows change places, the room will probably remain the same. We will still have our responsibilities, our worries and the things waiting to be done. But for a few minutes, we can stop thinking about everything that comes next and pay attention to what is happening now.
Mornings return again and again. Maybe the point is not to expect every one of them to be different, but to look with a little more attention at the things that keep returning.
Thank you for stopping to look at this small everyday moment with me. See you in the next observation.
