Hi all

Not much to say. I had to split this update in half as it was just too big. Showing what an abusive ass Edzeeker was in the past. Is anyone else happy that he's no longer around?

Bolx woke up with a start. He had no idea what had woken him, but he was glad that it hadn’t woken Saita, who was snoring softly next to him. As quietly as possible, he slipped from the bed and found the room colder than he liked.

He made his way to the corner of the room where a low fire was burning. He couldn’t help but chuckle. For all their technology, humans still enjoyed watching the fire, and now that the snow had arrived, many were lighting their fireplaces. As silently as possible, he added a few more pieces of wood to the dying fire and waited for the embers to create flames before he stepped back.

He was wide awake now and didn’t feel the need for sleep. Yet, he didn’t want to accidentally wake the human queen as she rested. It was so infrequent that she got a good night’s rest, he didn’t want to be the cause of another broken night.
He threw on a heavy jacket and pulled on his heavy-duty boots before slipping out onto the balcony. It had snowed again during the night, and he had to brush away the snow that had gathered on the railing, so he could lean on it.

The sun was yet to rise, but there was already movement in the courtyard below. The servants were starting to scurry around, getting the castle started for a new day. Few lights were on in the rooms surrounding Bolx and he couldn’t help wondering who else was awake this early.

A light dusting of snow was swirling around but the breeze wasn’t biting. Bolx was comfortable in what he was dressed, so he continued to watch the servants and soldiers coming and going. Few noticed him, and those who did, quickly offered a wave. Bolx had been living on the planet long enough for almost everyone to realise who he was and his connection to Saita. While many were too polite to use the phrase lover, he had heard it said in the castle. Saita hated that world but as it had a different meaning to Bolx, it never bothered him. His parents were lovers for decades before they decided they were husband and wife.

Husband and wife.

That was a thought that never crossed his mind. Even though he and Kaiden had been happy just continuing their physical relationship, as it seemed to outside observers, they kept their emotional and mental relationship between them.
Bolx looked up at the crescent moon above him and sighed. He was content with his life.

It was a night like this.

The thought brought his happy mood right down as a pain started in his chest. It was true. It was night exactly like this when he had been told. Despite Kaiden insisting on them being joined, he had never thought of her as his wife but rather as his partner. He had remained close to her, sitting in on all appointments with Edzeeker and ensuring he never got an opportunity to whisper in her ear again.

Then she got sick. It was subtle at first. Fevers that came out of nowhere. Dizzy spells that accompanied training. This was quickly followed by Kaiden becoming snappy or distant. It would always fade within days, so at first, Bolx didn’t let it affect him, but then the morning sickness started.

It didn’t matter whether Kaiden ate or not, she would be nauseous most mornings, and it often resulted in her being ill. She had managed to hide it from him for weeks before he caught her being ill at the mere smell of breakfast being cooked in the kitchens.

His first thought had been that she was ill but when he started to put everything together, he quickly realised what was going on. He didn’t know what to say to her. The night they had made up was a one-time thing and afterward, they had been strict about their coupling.

“Kaiden?” was all he could ask as he watched her wipe her mouth.

She didn’t say anything at first but as the silence grew and she eventually did look back at him, she only shrugged her shoulders. It brought on a fury that Bolx didn’t understand at first, but he squashed it, masking it as irritation.

“Kaiden, are you?” was all he managed to whisper.

She looked him in the eyes, and he noted her fear. Fear wasn’t something he was used to seeing on her face, yet there it was. She remained silent and he couldn’t take it anymore.

“We need to know. We can’t just ignore it.”

“You said we.” Was all she could say.

“Well, this didn’t manifest from a single person. I am as much a part of this as you are if I’m right. Am I right?”

“I don’t know.”

“How long have you been like this?”

“A few weeks.”

“After the forest?”

She nodded her head. Bolx wanted to be thrilled. He wanted to celebrate that there was potentially new life, but he was equally horrified because of the job that Kaiden had been given. There was no way she could carry this life, was there?

Instead of telling her what was needed, he took her hand and led her to their bed. He had her sit, and he knelt before her. He took a deep breath and said softly, “What do you want to do?”

“This is a we decision.”

“No, it isn’t, it’s more than just the both of us.”

She hugged his head to her chest. She held him tightly and for a few minutes he enjoyed listening to her heartbeat. They stayed together like that for a few minutes before she pushed him away to get to her feet. She nodded her head at him once and left the room. He had no idea what that was supposed to mean but he didn’t have it in him to chase after her. While he wanted an answer, he knew there was no way to force the young woman to be checked by her doctor.

Bolx’s entire day was filled with uncertainty. While he kept his feelings out of his work, it was quickly picked up on by the most observant of people. Myla had noticed his demeanour and kept close to him throughout the day, which made it difficult for him to track Kaiden down to get an answer. Bolx knew Myla wanted some sort of answer from him, as she too hadn’t seen her daughter that day. He did his best to prevent the queen from cornering him, but she knew how to cause the flow of work to be deviated and soon, Bolx found her walking next to him down one of the many corridors of the castle.

“You and Kaiden are hiding something.”

The Saith warrior stopped walking and looked down at the tall human and noticed a half-smile on her face. He was sure the woman may have already guessed what was going on but was too polite to come out and say it. He didn’t know what to say to her. He wasn’t sure, nor did he know if this was something Kaiden even wanted at this point in her life.

The queen took a few more steps before she turned to face the Saith. She tilted her head and asked, “Is there something you want to tell me, Bolx?”

The Saith was about to answer as honestly as he could, but he was interrupted by a rush of feet behind him before he was roughly spun around. Before he could realise what was happening, a powerful fist smashed him in the face, throwing him from his feet into the wall behind him, narrowly missing a window close by.
“You stupid creature! What were you thinking!” roared Edzeeker.
