“No, you would be hugely mistaken to take Sister Stivick as just another nun – that's another warrior in the army of the Lord, and things are about to change in Lofton County's Catholic community.”

Sgt. Vincent Trent had a healthy respect for the few but serious-minded Catholics in Lofton County. They rarely weighed in on the politics of the day openly, but the fall of the Fortier Apartments had caused Sister Joan Stivick to use her skills as a communicator to motivate the local Catholic community to use their influence to make sure the families that had to suddenly evacuate the Fortier Apartments to get help with housing.

“What is so sad is, the Catholic community is small here – as many churches as we have, we ought to have these kinds of situations handled,” Sgt. Trent was saying to his sister Victoria.

“And see, Vincent, this is why a lot of us stopped going to churches long before the pandemic,” also-Sgt. Victoria Trent said. “The thing is, we learned how to get a plan and execute it – it is just annoying to think of the millions that go through churches and how in our communities there is a church on every corner but we can't respond to the needs of the body and we can't keep our people indoors.”

“I get it, Victoria,” Sgt. Trent said. The thing is, lack of organization. Sister Stivick is plugged into something that has been running for 1,700 years and knows how to mobilize. And, our churches used to know how, too – we just have to get back to what we know, and I think the things that are happening are here to encourage us.”

“I hope so,” Sgt. Victoria said. “That's a great way of looking at the troubles in Lofton County. I pray that will be the outcome. I'd like to come home too at the end of this deployment and hit the ground running on getting some good done.”
