24 October 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3266: stinky fish
“I was just thinking about this – I think we can help our cats go vegetarian too, and there's a way because cats love stinky fish, and any food can stink when you have enough garlic on it.”
Seven-year-old Amanda Ludlow was talking with eight-year-old Gracie Trent in the home of Amanda's cousins, the Lees, and Mrs. Maggie Lee – born Magdalena Milano to an Italian-American family – was peeling garlic and cracking up in her kitchen.
“Ain't it the truth,” Gracie said, “but, there is a problem, Mandie.”
“What?” Amanda said.
“It's really not good all the time to feed cats the same food as humans,” Gracie said, “so, if we all make our food stink the same way, how are the cats supposed to know the difference?”
Amanda considered this, and then nodded her head.
“Yeah, this could be a problem,” she said, “because then cats and humans will be competing for garlic fries, and having all those claws means that's going to be a tough fight for us humans.”
“And, it can get worse because lions and tigers are cats too,” Gracie said, “so, at least the tigers will not be trying to eat humans, but, when you go to the zoo or the circus, imagine the lines at the stands if the lions and tigers decide they want in first.”
“Yeah, uh, back to the drawing board,” Amanda said. “The world just doesn't need those type of problems.”
“Ain't it the truth, Mandie, ain't it the truth.”
