“I've just been waiting for you to finish the sale of the Ludlow Bubbly, Captain – and I love how you set all that up to bless everyone you think is going to outlive you. God knows, too.”
Col. F.V. Wozniak had waited quite a long time to call Capt. R.E. Ludlow with some news.
“I'm so glad you have all this time on your hands now, and that my musical great-grandchildren are so well-behaved, and that 'Hashtag: Side Hustle' is going so well,” the colonel continued, “so you will not fall out shocked when I tell you hundreds of thousands of dollars in recording work are looking for you and your big, beautiful bass voice.”
“What?” Capt. Ludlow said.
“I never told you what happened after you sang at Major Thibodeaux's outdoor funeral, both in the choir in my own 'Hallelujah Vocalise' and also in premiering the major's own song,” the colonel said, “and I've been playing dumb about how to find you because I know your plate is full, but the music producer for a new hymn project has been calling me every week.”
“Oh, really?” Capt. Ludlow said.
“He has been looking for a bass-voiced veteran to be part of his 'Songs and Hymns of Strong Comfort' project, and is convinced that he must have you in it,” the colonel said.
“Well, I have time and you know my neighbor Melvin Trent has a home studio, so I can share the wealth and walk right down the road,” Capt. Ludlow said.
“That young man is doing great work indeed,” Col. Wozniak said. “My grandson puts together corporate presentations for Fortune 500 companies and has gotten onto Team No Sleep beats as his favorite local supplier. Young Mr. Trent is a gifted modern composer in the multi-track environment, and the songs he is doing with his father are amazing.”
“'Love Is My Inspiration' is a personal favorite of mine,” Capt. Ludlow said.
“'Songs and Hymns of Strong Comfort' won't need all that production, but Mr. Trent handles the studio environment cleanly and is already in your Covid bubble, so that's perfect,” Col. Wozniak said. “With your permission, I will now give Capt. George Babb your number, and I'm sure he will be calling you soon!”
“I'll be waiting with interest,” the captain said. “Thank you, Colonel!”
