Cycling Through the Hazy Streets of Kallang... An Unexpected Discovery During My Evening Adventure
Tonight's cycling adventure was a little different from my usual rides around Singapore. As you may already know, cycling has become one of my favorite hobbies, and I always look forward to exploring different parts of the city whenever I have some free time.
However, what made tonight's adventure interesting wasn't necessarily the destination but rather the unusual weather conditions. And unfortunately, it wasn't the good kind of special. LOL!
You see, our city has been experiencing hazy conditions lately, and the air quality isn't exactly ideal for outdoor activities. If you look at the photos that I'm sharing today, you might think that the city was covered in a beautiful layer of fog. But nope, that's actually haze!
The weather was still warm, and I noticed that I was getting tired more easily than usual. I'm not entirely sure whether it was directly caused by the haze, but I certainly felt that the atmosphere wasn't as refreshing as it normally would be.
Since cycling is a physical activity that makes me breathe more heavily, I was also concerned about inhaling too much polluted air. So I decided to keep my cycling adventure short instead of spending several hours outdoors.
Of course, when the air quality is poor, it's better to avoid strenuous outdoor activities altogether.
Exploring the Streets of Kallang
For tonight's adventure, I decided to explore the Kallang area using one of the auto-gear bicycles from Anywheel.
I really like how convenient these rental bicycles are, especially whenever I feel like having a spontaneous cycling adventure without bringing my own bicycle.
As I cycled along the streets, I took the opportunity to capture photos of the beautiful surroundings, particularly the traditional shophouses that give this part of Singapore its unique character.
One thing that I appreciate about Kallang is the interesting combination of old and modern architecture. There are rows of charming shophouses with colorful façades and traditional rooftops, while towering residential buildings dominate the skyline behind them.
It's a beautiful contrast that reminds me of how much our city has developed over the years.
Although it wasn't particularly late in the evening, many establishments had already switched on their lights, creating a lovely atmosphere along the streets.
And here's something interesting!
Because of the haze, the sky appeared unusually soft and pale, giving the entire neighborhood a cinematic appearance. Some of the scenes almost looked like they came straight out of a movie. Hehe!
I guess that's one unexpected advantage for photography, although I certainly wouldn't wish for hazy weather just to capture beautiful photos.
Sometimes, even an unpleasant situation can offer a different perspective on familiar surroundings.
Discovering a Hidden Gem
The highlight of tonight's adventure was an unexpected discovery while wandering around the area.
I came across what appeared to be the remains of an old property's entrance, featuring a massive iron gate supported by beautiful white pillars.
The gate looked incredibly grand, and I couldn't help but wonder about its history.
Was it once the entrance to a luxurious mansion? Or perhaps it belonged to an important historical property?
I'm not entirely sure, but its impressive appearance certainly caught my attention!
Surrounded by huge trees and greenery, the gate had a mysterious atmosphere that made it even more fascinating.
This is exactly what I love about cycling and wandering around the city. Sometimes, you don't need a specific destination to discover something interesting.
Another Memorable Cycling Adventure
Overall, I'm happy that I managed to enjoy a short cycling adventure, capture some interesting street photographs, and discover another hidden gem in Kallang.
However, I sincerely hope that the haze clears soon because I definitely prefer cycling under clear skies and breathing fresh air.
After all, cycling should be a refreshing and enjoyable experience, not something that makes us worry about the air we're breathing.
For now, I'll be looking forward to better weather and more opportunities to explore the beautiful corners of Singapore.
That's all for tonight's adventure!
See you on my next adventure!
