Cycling from Potong Pasir to Ang Mo Kio... An Evening of City Views, Rivers, and Festive Vibes
One of the main reasons why I decided to buy my own bicycle is because Singapore offers such a convenient way to explore the city on two wheels. There are plenty of pathways around the neighborhoods, and we also have Park Connectors that link different areas, parks, rivers, and residential estates together. For someone like me who enjoys wandering around the city, having a bicycle makes it possible to turn an ordinary weekend into another little adventure.
Last Saturday, I decided to go cycling from Potong Pasir towards Ang Mo Kio. I didn't really have a complicated plan for the day. I simply wanted to cycle, enjoy the surroundings, take some photos, and see what interesting sights I would discover along the way.
One thing I enjoyed about this route was how the scenery kept changing.
Around Potong Pasir, there are plenty of residential buildings, but what makes the area interesting to me is the mixture of old and new. I passed modern HDB blocks with landscaped gardens, while not too far away were older residential buildings that gave the neighborhood a completely different character.
That contrast is something I always enjoy seeing while cycling around Singapore.
There were also places of worship scattered throughout the neighborhood. I passed a beautifully decorated Hindu temple with its colorful tower standing beside the residential blocks. Later, I also came across a church surrounded by trees. These little details make cycling around the city interesting because within just a short distance, the scenery can change from modern housing estates to places filled with culture, tradition, and history.
Another part that I enjoyed was cycling near the waterways.
There are several stretches where the cycling paths follow the river, and these are probably some of my favorite places to ride. The water, trees, bridges, and buildings in the distance create a peaceful atmosphere. Even though I was still surrounded by the city, it somehow felt much more relaxing.
The route could eventually bring me towards the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park area, but this time I decided to skip going deeper into the park and continued directly towards Ang Mo Kio instead. Sometimes I like changing my route along the way depending on my mood LOL.
By the time I reached Ang Mo Kio, the evening atmosphere was beginning to appear.
The sky slowly became darker, the streetlights started glowing, and the neighborhood became busier with people heading out for dinner or spending time with their families. Around Ang Mo Kio Hub, I could already see festive decorations adding more light and color to the surroundings.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, which many people also associate with mooncakes and lanterns, is getting close, so there are celebrations and decorations appearing in different parts of the city. I always enjoy seeing Singapore during festive seasons because familiar neighborhoods suddenly feel a little more lively.
There was even a community event happening near the river, with rows of chairs and plenty of people gathering together. It was nice seeing families, cyclists, and residents enjoying their Saturday evening.
This is exactly why I love cycling.
It is not always about reaching a famous attraction. Sometimes the best part is simply moving through different neighborhoods, following the river, noticing buildings, temples, trees, and little community events along the way.
Overall, it was another satisfying cycling adventure and a great way to welcome the weekend.
See you in my next cycling adventure! 🚲
