Walked into Planet Fitness today and the scanner wouldn’t read my card. Twice. The front desk ended up typing my name in manually to log me for the day.
Small thing, but it got me thinking. Somewhere in a database, today might just look like a manual override instead of a real check-in. A footnote. An asterisk next to an otherwise clean streak.
But here’s the thing — the treadmill doesn’t care how I got through the door. Neither does the rack I loaded for sets, or the mat I stretched out on before rowing. My legs put in the same work whether the scanner beeped or a staff member typed a few keys instead.
There’s something almost funny about how much weight we give to the digital record of a thing over the thing itself. The system wants a clean tap. My body just wants the reps.
So if the attendance log shows a gap or a weird manual entry where today should be, that’s fine. I know what happened. The steps don’t lie — they’re logged right here, and they’re exactly as real as any other day I’ve shown up.
Consistency isn’t a database entry. It’s a decision you keep making, scanner or no scanner.
